I've found it's difficult to be an environmentalist during the holidays. Bruce and I redecorated our living room ( it looks much better) and we put up a Christmas tree. Although I absolutely love real Christmas trees, the whole tree thing is not so good for the environment so we got a fake one. Of course fake trees save trees from being cut down ( Read more... )

have you thought about a unitarian church? They're nondenominational and their religious education program teaches children about all major religions. Also, instead of baptism, they do child dedications. (http://www.uureston.org/SERVICE/UUCR.service.childdedications.html)
I don't know whether that would satisfy your family but it might be worth a shot? I've considered joining the local church here because while I consider myself agnostic (or a secular humanist, depending on when you talk to me) I miss the non-religious aspects of our church, especially doing service.

A unitarian church is a really good idea! I'll have to look into that more, thanks for the suggestion.
