HP Question

Do you think the Slytherins were mean to Snape as well as the Gryffindors/other Houses?

Do you think they have a "protect your own" mentality, or is it every person for themself? Would they tease Snape as the Mauraders did? Or ever step in to help him if they saw another House picking on him?

The Slytherines always struck me as an eat your own house. I think that they weren't as blatant in their teasing, etc., as the Mauraders, which is their form of house solidarity, but I think it was there. And the only way I see anyone intervening on Snape's behalf is if it suited their own goals (like, maybe Voldemort ordered someone to help prod Snape down the path to joining him?)

That's what I thought, too, and others have raised some different, but equally valid points. I just don't know. Hmm.

Yeah I forgot about Draco's little "crush" It seems that Lucius would have spoke highly of him . I wonder about other Slytherins? We don't know all that many, do we?

I think in a situation that Snape was being "picked on," his Slytherin wards would be too scared to do anything.

Yeah, I guess if Snape couldn't defend himself, who could?

I agree with tzi; I think it would all depend on 1) his family's social standing and 2) the purity of their bloodline. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't seem to remember the books ever saying whether or not Snape was a pureblood or not. Based on the flashback scene in OotP he's probably not Muggle-born (though you never know, he could be one of those self-hating ones ^_~), but he could very well be half-blooded like Harry. We know that the sorting hat isn't above putting half-bloods in Slytherin--Voldemort was in there, Harry could've been, etc. etc.

I could very easily see Snape getting picked on by absolutely everyone, including his own house. That could be another reason for him being so aggressive towards the Mauraders and Lily; hoping that by showing how much he hates them he'll win acceptance within Slytherin. Just a theory. ^_^

There's no proof that's a pureblood... I do hope we find out exactly where his family stands soon. It would help answer so many questions!

Interesting thoughts, thaks!

(here from the d_s)

Snape's bloodline is unknown. The only thing we do know is that he's not Muggleborn. Otherwise, JKR hasn't said. He could be half-blood, pureblood or something in between. Just not Muggleborn.

No way! Sun "poisoned" her husband! Total Slytherin! But, Boone, my poor Boone, Gryffindor maybe.

And yes, you certainly can, as soon as I have it finished! Only a few more to go.... I'll email you all the info when it's done!
