Yep, I noticed that, too. I like to take my time through books, though I am a fast reader, too. I only read right before bedtime, and I alternate between reading and crosswords or Sudoku so I don't get bored with the puzzles.

AND- I'm waiting on the new(ish) Nelson Demille book- I think it's called Wildfires? I've also head there is a new John Sanford out or coming out soon, but I can't bring myself to buy hardcover books....too too expensive. (and yet I'll buy a $30 diaper? Yeah...I know...but the diapers aren't REALLY for me...)

I nearly bought it when I saw it at Costco but I don't like hardcover books. I don't like the price I guess I should say. You know I like a book when I buy it new in hard cover. Now I do like the HP series but not well enough to buy all 7 in hardcover without an excellent sale.

I classify things oddly.

Don't move to Australia. A small paperback is $20, a large trade paperback is around $30 and a hardback is $50. This probably helps explain why I don't buy so many books these days. Buying through Amazon sounds cheaper but it costs twice as much when you factor in postage, so it ends up costing much the same.

I agree.. I bought the book last night.. Started to read it.. then I put it down.. I don't want to read it to quick.. I don't want to rush through it.. So i've decided I'm going to read 30 min a day.. and just stay away from the reviews!

I made a conscious decision to not buy any of the Harry Potter books until she'd finished writing the series. There are 4 unfinished series on my shelf (not counting Terry Pratchett's books, because they aren't technically a series since each is a self-contained novel that only occasionally references events from before) and I am sick of sitting on tenterhooks for years waiting for an author to get around to finishing a series. So I had to think about what that meant in terms of spoilers, especially since I spend so much time on the internet with people in countries who get books published sometimes months before they are released in Australia. I basically decided that if I like the books enough spoilers aren't going to stop me from reading it, the journey of reading is only slightly diminished by knowing parts of the destination before I get there ( ... )

I'm not afraid of spoilers. I need to reread 5 & 6 first. And that's kind of what I'm thinking...is that I don't have time right now to read. Knitting is more of a priority to me lately. I think I might get out book 5 and start on it, a chapter at a time. We'll see. I haven't even made time to go see the movie. I'll get to it eventually.

It's not that I don't like Harry Potter or anything like that. I figure that most people on my friends list are courteous enough that if it was a book spoiler to put it behind a cut.... I mean most people are courteous enough not to ruin any book if they aren't sure that someone has read it.

Me I'm a book junkie. If it's a series I love (like HP) I get engrossed and just use snippets of time whenever I can to read. Somehow this weekend both boys took naps and we had some driving errands (and Bruce home to drive) to do so I ended up getting time I normally don't get. Anyway, finished it today.

See now you and I read a lot alike so I can see how you would do it but most people don't inhale reading like we do as a part of their daily lives so I don't see how they can do it. Actually, I've gotten bad about finding time for it lately, I've only got two books going instead of my usual several and I don't quite know how I'm going to find time for more.

Plus I just got the first book of the Pillar of Light series loaned to me today. I've never heard of it but they way people were reacting to the book I understand it's a popular series among the LDS folk in my ward at least. It wouldn't shock me if you've read it.
