This is fantastic. I'm so impressed when I find a divorce!fic that doesn't demonize anyone or oversimplify. I think you did an amazing job of showing the split in a realistic light. Also, you incorporated canon posts and tweets well, without making them feel clumsy.
I love the slow build of Spencer and Brendon's relationship. You've written such a believable attraction and connection between them, it feels solid. I also just flat out like the characters. They're flawed enough to be human, but every single person in this fic feels real and sympathetic. That's, frankly, awesome and rare.
And finally, I love the hell out of Bogart. ♥
Thank you for sharing this! I really enjoyed reading it!
I'm really glad that you felt I didn't demonize anyone in this story; I was trying *so hard* not to let that happen, so I'm glad it seems to have come across that way.
I'm also glad that you felt that the buildup of S&B's relationship was believable. You wouldn't believe how many times I made Amy reassure me that I'd laid a proper foundation before each new step. And then asked her to read it through again, just to make sure.
Also, Bogart. ♥
Again, thank you so much! This comment made me grin so widely!
It is ridiculous, true. But BOGART FOUND BOTH HIS PEOPLE, and they found each other, and oh man, if this isn't exactly true then it OUGHT to be, and I love it so, so much.
I think that originally this really was supposed to be a story about Bogart finding his people. I just didn't know I was going to need 40,000 words to tell it!
Anyway, I'm thrilled that you liked it so much! Thank you!
Uh, for the record, I meant *I* was ridiculous, not the story, which is gorgeous, and I love how you incorporated all of the canon events like the lullabye and filming with Shane into the story. *And* I love how you have Jon and Ryan there NOT as bad guys but as people with a different vision, and everyone's trying the best they can, and it's just not good enough.
Mostly, though, I am a sucker for animals and their people. My cat, sitting on my lap right now, will attest to that.
(First, thank you for the rec! I'm grinning really hard right now!)
I'm a little embarrassed to admit how many weeks I've had the Divorce Time Line and all of the boys (and Pete's) twitters, and MTV interviews, and Absolute Punk articles all open in various windows for easy reference. I can stop feeling like a total stalker now!
I'm also really glad that Ryan and Jon came across well to you. I was trying really hard to be fair in this to them, as I quite obviously have my favorites.
I'm also quite the sucker for the animals. Although I also think that my cats will be quite pleased I've finally stopped writing a story about a dog!
I was rereading this last night and went, wait... the divorce was over in the first 8,000 words? What did I spent the remaining 34,000 writing about?!
I did work hard to keep it a two boys and their dog fic. Bogart is in every scene (or mentioned, at least) except for... two, I think. Although possibly it's only one; I know there was one scene on tour and I felt like he would have been shoe-horned in there, so I left it out.
...and I totally made up Des Moines. So if something did happen there, I don't know about it!
Thank you so, so much! I know I've already said it, but I really appreciated all of your comments over the last 3 weeks.
I'm glad that the way everyone came across in the split worked well for you; I said it up above, but I had to try so hard to be fair and not, well, favor my favorites, and I'm really glad that came across.
I loved writing Pete in this (well, I love writing Pete as a supporting character anyway), and Bogart is pretty much my favorite.
