Hm. THinking. Well, the best possible researcher will do research for the pure love of research and keep an eye out for results that are unexpected. Something will *always* happen in an experiment whether it is expected or not. I think the key is to be able to back up your research with other research - that old repeatable experiment issue. This is why peer review journals are so freaking important and why I have *SO* many issues with "intelligent design". Funding is a sucktastic issue and geoscientists run into this all the time 'cus some of the most tasty grants come from the oil companies. Dunno. As for the Hadron folks, I think they'll be excited with whatever new particles they produce! And if it's unexpected, all the better sometimes. Let's just hope they live to tell about it! ;-)
