The new Stereolab album is heavenly. Just heavenly. (And the boy who sold it to me was cute. Sigh.)ah, c'est un travail que cet amour fait souffrir
Qui frustre quand on n'arrive pas à s'ouvrir
Le carcan le control semblant alors plus faciles
Ne réservant pourtant les temps plus faciles
Meanwhile, classes start tomorrow. They look infufferably boring ( Read more... )

Some pompous fool in one of my undergrad classes, in response to the general question of what he had done with his vacation, replied "Well, I spent the summer reading Camus. It was very deep." Of course, he spoke not a word of french. I avoided said person like the plague from that moment on, no pun intended.
Is the senior seminar, entitled "Identities," basically a top-down effort to help you discover the true nature of subjectivity as a portal to your own post-adolescent efforts at self-exploration? If so, I concur with the gag.
Seriously, your classes sound very nice, which I suppose is a natural result of attending the finest liberal arts school in the country. Is this your last semester?

I have two semesters actually. This is my last real semester, next semester will be maybe two classes and the rest of my time will be given to my thesis.

The senior seminar could be okay, but knowing most of the French majors here, it can't be that exciting discussion-wise. They're excited that junior writing is in English. And with "identites" as the subject, I fear "a top-down effort to help you discover the true nature of subjectivity as a portal to your own post-adolescent efforts at self-exploration" may be it. We'll see, the first class is tomorrow. ...If only I could pick the handful of French majors who are astute, studious and interesting and have a seminar of five. Maybe I'm just a snob who gets bored too easily.

Oh, graduation, you are too far away.

(But, then again, who know's what I'll do after that.)

Oh, give Marivaux a chance. I laughed out loud reading Le Paysan Parvenu.
