Aw, man, that sucks. I'd be interested to hear what happens; I just bought a 3G last week to complete my Apple Flavor-Aid consumption for the year.

I just got back from the Apple Store, where they replaced my phone with a minimum of questioning. To get in the official line to talk to a Genius, I had to talk to one of their triage people (I think they're called Concierges, though I could be wrong). The triage guy saw what my phone was doing and immediately knew the cause: the sleep/wake button was jammed, so the phone was behaving exactly as it would if you just mashed on that button constantly... hence the reboot/shutdown/reboot loop ( ... )
