Why I've been complaining about Comp Sci all year

All semester I've been feeling really guilty about enjoying the heck out of my electrical engineering class. It's just so much more fun than computer science! There's also some hidden dilemmas ( Read more... )

I'm going to say something they has been drilled into our heads since the age of four... auburnmaven November 23 2009, 17:02:12 UTC
If you don't enjoy what your doing, then it's not worth it.

My Mom is in server management too (how come we never discovered that our Mom's had the same job :D), and she gets flack for it all the time too. (Although she also has to miss work sometimes because of her illness and I'm sure that has more than a little to do with it.) Anyway, I wanted to get into that field at first for the same reasons that you talked about and she snapped my head off. She said that if I wasn't doing something that made me happy, what was the point?

I know, it's very silly. People here have been telling me that, too. Mom didn't want me to be comp sci - she just expressed relief that I'd found something besides history that I liked. When I tell her what we're covering, she says that the computer engineering stuff she has to do when messing with servers is her favorite part.

We might not have known because mom's been changing jobs recently. I mean, she's been selling server clusters for a while, but I don't think she had to do direct management of them before. :P

And unfortunately, degree plans mean we sometimes have to do things we don't like (like take horrible differential equations courses where we have to compete with pre-meds for grades).
