This is fabulous! What an awesome piece of writing. The nearest (and far distant) I ever got to this was to say I had the maternal instinct of a lioness defending her cubs.

That is an extremely important maternal instinct! Often underestimated, I think, it gets mentioned as a stereotype but even then only in socially-determined-as-acceptable situations. But it's there All The Time, almost chokingly so sometimes, it's a real psychological conflict between that and the whole over-socialisation-of-women thing.
