There isn't a lot about his background in specifics just yet, as his character is still pretty much set to the present. What has been established, however, is that at some point in his 20s, his torso had been cut and replaced with clockwork in an effort to stop his other-half from completely taking over. The main reason why he consumes so much alcohol is to also slow his effect, and is not affected by that 'tipsy' feeling. While it does work, his other-half may still come out - making a guess at of around midnight - and while Ples cannot remember what his other half does, he can feel when the 'urge' is coming.

Also, a slight correction to one of the points on the livejournal FAQ link. While he is technically gay, Word of God also states that he is borderline asexual.

Personality:
Personality: Ples seems to be rather reclusive. While he knows social activities like dancing, of the swing and ballroom variety, he doesn't seem to actually go out and do them very often. Even when he goes to a bar, he might be the type to not easily spark conversation. And he goes out a -lot-. Which, is odd, because even drinking every single day and frequenting a liquor store every at least once a week, he has not appeared drunk. In fact, his general appearance is very polite and well-mannered. He also flusters easily, and may stammer to regain his composure if something sounds out of place. None the less, he remains proper and in place, and if on the off chance someone begins to talk to him, it would be rude of him to just ignore it. Just a few pieces of idle chat if he needs to, and then he gives his goodbyes and retires at the next available chance.

He needs to show himself like that; to show that he is, in fact, normal. Oh, that tick-tocking sound? Oh it's just my pocket watch, don't mind it! You're sure buying a lot of alcohol again, party? Oh, not exactly! In a hurry today, Mister Tibenoch? Oh, I have a horrible headache, pardon me. But here in lies the problem. He isn't, and he will give any possible logical lie that he can to disprove any sort of doubt that the one asking the question may have. He probably has a whole list of them by now. Nobody needs to know the countless emotions he has bottled up within him that can fill a liquor cabinet, or the skeletons in his closet. Like any closet or cabinet, they can be kept closed, but their existence stays.

He's troubled by a force that he knows exist and has plagued him like a parasite, and he feels as though the only person that can rid of it is himself. Mostly because this parasite has taken up so much of his life that he is literally another side of his personality, instead of just a head-ache a few hours old. He has no choice but to alter his own body to get rid of him, to use chemicals probably not meant for the insides of the human body, to even change the make-up of his /blood/ to run these alterations, if only he could be back to his normal self again. But this other half still comes out, and Ples must keep trying, keep experimenting, to rid it.

This other half of Ples, who doesn't seem to have a name just yet, is the opposite of everything the 'normal Ples' lives for. He's social, granted, and much more confident, but he's brash, and cares little for the consequences of what he may say or do. In fact, he doesn't even seem to care what happens to himself /period/, all he needs to do is succeed. His normal self doesn't seem to remember what this side does, and he's used this to his advantage. Has he killed someone before? Yes. Is he not afraid to do it more than once? Yes. Does normal Ples eventually get the idea? Unfortunately.

Abilities: While it probably isn't an ability technically, it is out of the ordinary. So. His torso is completely knocked out and replaced with clockwork, gears working the connection of his upper and lower half. He can still eat, and technically still needs to, and figuring his favorite food is 'seafood', anything in the general easy to digest area is probably what he has. Besides the copious amounts of alcohol that probably help run and clean the thing. Because of this mix of human and machine, his blood has been mixed with oil, like any machine would need.

Sample Entry: [There isn't anything at first, just long silence. A leg change, from crossing left to crossing right, but it is quiet again, as Ples adjusts his glasses. ]

I suppose the general public wouldn't really approve of a place like this. It leaves me with a feeling of the shivers now and then, too, do not get me wrong. The looks some of the people give? I swear... they may not even have souls. It's terrifying to me.

[ He ruffles his shoulders, already getting the heebie-jeebies. He turns the page of a book in his lap. ]

With that aside, it's peaceful. There are books I've found on this bookshelf that I've read before, even, and some I haven't. Oh, Lord, what am I reading now.

The Big Sleep! I've almost forgotten I have this book at...

[ He's trailed off, looking into the book, but he wasn't reading this time. He looked pained, looking up ahead, the blank wall staring back just making it worse. He sighed, shook his head of it, and pushed his glasses up on his nose. ]

...well. You all know what I mean. Where was I.
