This is definitely going into my favorites. The sparseness of each snippet gives them such impact (being able to write like that is a skill I greatly admire :), and I like how even Ella senses that something is not quite right. Lovely.

Thank you! I wanted it to be skittery and distracted, so I'm glad I might have pulled it off. And, yeah, I wanted Ella to have that child's perceptiveness (and give her another happier memory of Uncle Walter, heh).

Gorgeous writing, I love the nagging sense throughout, more overly, I love the reminder of how close the Dunham girls are.

Thank you! I adore our Bishop Boys, but we haven't seen enough of those Dunham girls lately, have we?

Oh, this is absolutely beautiful, just the story I wanted to read after that finale. And I love the different iterations of "something's missing/something's wrong" throughout the story as that sense of wrongness builds.

Thank you! I felt so clobbered by that finale, I wanted to at least nudge our team down the path of setting things right. :)

Thanks very much. I love seeing this again through the comments--it's another layer of ambiguity, like you say, that I hadn't even considered while I was writing.
