It varies. This year, we're doing a boneless lamb roast with fingerling potatoes. Next year, I'm gunning for a center-cut standing rib roast. I have some fabulous recipes for both, but we didn't have the coin to invest in a whole standing rib roast this year.

It's ok. I think my roast lamb is *fabulous*. Maybe I'll see if we can make some home-made pita and hummus. Oooh! And Tabbouleh! And maybe some tzatziki.

My mom makes a huge spectacular feast with more food than my family can ever possibly eat. On purpose. Because wasting food is a way to be festive, or something. To begin with, there will be some kind of candy that looks decorative but no one likes, such as candy canes or layers of coloured jello, in fancy glasses at the table when we sit down. Then there will be more food than anyone can eat. It probably includes ham, turkey, and/or lamb (usually more than one of the above) with gravy; mashed potatoes; cranberry sauce; candied sweet potatoes; cooked carrots; standardised white-bread rolls from the grocery store (I swear it's been the exact same kind of roll at every family gathering since forever.) Then there will be a choice of several kinds of pies and cookies.

I will eat some of the potatoes and then a cookie.

Given that we get about 20 or so people these days, everyone pitches in a dish or two, and somehow, we eat almost all of it. Turkey, Mashed and sweet potatoes, stuffing, broccoli salad, potato salad, cranberries, pies, baked apples, nut + fruit bread, champagne....the list goes on and on.

I'm doing butternut squash soup this year.
