'Thon round-up.

Nov 23, 2013 11:18

Thank you! Thanks to everyone who wrote, to everybody who read, and those of you still reading! I hope it wasn't too bumpy of a ride for everyone, and I do apologize if it was.

Good work, and congrats on another 'thon! You guys are awesome for still going strong with the Strachey boys.

I'm with the people who like set times. I thought a fall thon was a great idea, then I remembered that a lot of people do NANO. A flurry of call-in shifts at work kind of wrecked my writing plans this time, but that was unusual. I don't know if anyone does Yuletide (I write treats now; getting involved in the actual exchange has become a pain in the neck), but maybe a December thon would be good? If it was early in the month?

Three times a year sounds great.

Yeah, I would probably try to do it in early October - the rest of the year seems to fall into ruin for a lot of people (ha, ha fall...). I've participated in some December fests before and it always seemed like there were people having to drop out due to other commitments - which I totally understand, it's a struggle to get anything done that time of year. It's also on the heels of NaNo so there's a contingent of people who are exhausted with writing/don't have any time until december to start their stories.

Set times are a great idea, I think, but I also think it's fun to do something spontaneous once in a while, so maybe a few set times a year and one or two here and there that someone suggests and the mod and group like the idea? Also, maybe if we announced the 'thon's on Nick_and_Nora, like the Small Fandom Fest does, we could get more interest in both writers to participate and the reading audience?

I used to announce thons there and at the other communities, but I think the gap is pretty small of people who've not friended all the strachey comms on lj, i.e. there's a lot of overlap between the three or four I know of. Maybe you know something I don't though?

I wasn't envisioning that the 'thon themes have to be set in advance for all three so if people want to suggest them, that would be great. As for adding more, that might have be something along the lines of challenges at nick_and_nora - I just know I wouldn't be able to commit to having a full-scale thon every couple months.

I get that--I sure couldn't commit to writing a story every couple months. I used to write constantly, but life is messing with my head at the moment, so it's a bigger effort. :-)

I agree with Candy, set times and spontaneous is a great idea. I´m a big fan of DSM and would love to read your stories every day of the year so I think the reading audience would appreciate it very much!!!!! I want to thank all your writers for your beautiful stories and thank you Chlare for organising this thon. Because of you all I had a great time last week :-) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
