Funny, with that first paragraph I was readying up to suggest good eats. :P

Good resources for cooking? Alton Brown's books are godly tomes of cooking information. "I'm just here for the food" covers most of the basic cooking steps that there are and "I'm just here for more food" is an expansion of this into the baking realm.

Aside from this all there is to do is study and cook. Alton explains pretty much everything from why takeout chinese rice gets hard in the fridge to why a pizza stone is the perfect surface for cooking a pizza.

I saw a copy of an Alton Brown book when I was at Malaprop's in Asheville. It looked to have about the same information as the show does, and since all the episodes and recipes are online, I skipped buying the book. The Good Eats Fan Page (http://www.goodeatsfanpage.com/GEFP/index.htm) is great.

eh, yes and no, there is always something to be said about having all the information in one spot, so things that might all be on one page in the book might be on five different episodes of good eats. Plus I believe the books have non-show recipes, but I'm not completely sure of that.

I am sure Nicole can help you out with recipes. She gets a daily healthy recipe.

I, on the other hand, am not too good at cooking either, but I certainly try! Here's one of my favorite things, though it's not exactly healthy (or a superfood), but it does have a low-fat recipe:

One day, I should see about trading some recipes with Nicole. She has yet to make anything that wasn't delicious.

Aww, thanks! I'm all about the ease of preparation and ways to skim off the calories without losing flavor. Next time you come over, I'll get some recipes together for you!

I LOVE Good Eats, it combines all of my favorite things into one show, science, food, and cooking!

I have no recipes to share but if you venture over to allrecipes.com they have a function where you can look for recipes based on ingredients.
That's a cool little list, a lot of those foods I love and cook with a lot like broccoli, my favorite way to prepare it is simply lightly steamed with no salt, butter, cheese, nothing but I love the taste of broccoli haha.

That's a fairly simple recipe. I've never steamed anything before, so it's one thing I need to try. Do I need to buy anything extra to steam stuff?

They sell these little steam baskets but I've taken a metal collinder and put it over a pot of shallow boiling water and then covered that lightly with foil so that the steam gets trapped in, and just steam it until its done! I've also put broccoli in a glass bowl with a little water in the bottom and thrown it in the microwave for a couple of minutes, it works pretty well! As long as you can create steam and the food comes in contact with the steam, you're steaming!

Those fries do look pretty good. I think I should try them out this weekend.

We, unfortunately, don't have a Trader Joe's. The nearest ones are all in Atlanta. However, there is one near my Grandma's house in Ohio that I love. They also have Jungle Jim's, which is like Trader Joe's on steroids. I haven't been there yet, but I heard it's pretty insane. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jungle_Jim%27s_International_Market

Truthfully, it took me a while to warm up to Alton Brown. Now, I love him so much, I can't even remember why I didn't like him in the first place. Good Eats is an awesome show, if a little silly sometimes ( ... )

The silliness is what got me in the first place. You know how geeky/nerdy I can be, and Alton Brown has been quoted as saying he wanted to mix Monty Python, Bill Nye and Julia Childs into one show. It's the perfect combination for me.

Other than my grandma, hardly anyone in my immediate family cooks. My mom often cooked stuff from a box, but I never really helped much. I never really cared to. Until about 2 months ago, I had never even made a batter before.

That website could be renamed foodporn and I'd understand why.
