there were thousands of people who couldnt evacuate, they had no cars and no money. and also new orleans has been told to evacuate many times - especially if you have no car and no constant access to news, there was very little way to know that leaving this time actually was necessary.
that post was me karen, btw - i dont know why it showed up as anonymous, sorry about that.
I agree with almost all of what youre saying, especially about the resources needing to have been set up before this happened, but there have still been lots of times people have been told to evacuate and they didnt and everything was fine.. and things would have been fine this time too, if the levees had not broken. the worst that had hapened prior to the levees breaking was trees being knocked down, windows broken and property damage. if youre scraping by and cant leave easily (no car), and need to not miss any days of work at all, it doesnt seem like the best idea to leave if you think youre going to be missing work and possibly getting fired because of it. there were lots of smart, informed people who stayed for logical reasons and then got stuck. and i know youre too kind of person to think of the dead as "fuckers who should have been swept away", no one deserves to die, not even the especially stupid.
No I don't wish those fuckers dead Miss Karen, I'm just annoyed severely... Hell I would have probably been one of those fuckers who stayed behind, but who knows.

Sorry I haven't posted for a while I was up a mountain! So you can imagine my shock when I came down and realized New Orleans was under water. WTF
