69 Memory Lane - Monday

As soon as Ianto had gotten done laughing at Jack for falling out of a tree he'd helped the older man get out of his clothes and into a hot shower. Jack's back had looked like some sort of goth patchwork quilt with his black and blue marks and Ianto had merely rolled his eyes and shoved the older man towards a fluffy towel when Jack had tried to ( Read more... )

Aziraphale had watched the news last night, and although he knew Jack was capable of recovering quickly from his injuries, the angel still felt compelled to stop and check on him.

Also, he may have been feeling a bit mischievous, and inclined to a little teasing as well.

So he made his way down to Memory Lane, and rapped politely at the door.

It was answered by Ianto, who had been showing a hint of remorse for the teasing he'd given Jack last night by playing doorman today.

Okay, maybe it was also because Jack could pout like a big baby.

"Good day, Mr. Aziraphale."

"Hello, Mr Jones," Aziraphale replied, with a warm smile. "I heard Captain Harkness had a bit of an accident yesterday, and I thought I'd stop by to check in on him."

There was a glint in the angel's eyes as he spoke, suggesting Ianto would probably not be the only recipient of a Jack-pout today.

"I think that's a lovely idea, Sir." Ianto agreed and his pale eyes twinkled with a hint of answering mischief as he turned and began to walk down the hallway.

"He's in the study. I'll get tea."

Jack was definitely in the study, busy covering up all his sensitive papers and attempting to look pathetic.

...

He really was only going to succeed with one of those.

Luckily for Jack, Aziraphale wasn't really interested in spying on his papers, so that part was easy.

He was also pretty good at the pathetic look, although sadly, the angel wasn't falling for it.

"And how are you today, my dear?"

Jack was trying his best though!

"I'm bruised and achy," he said. "And Ianto keeps picking on me. The bully."

"Oh, that's awful," Aziraphale agreed, with a little bit of a smile at the corners of his lips. "Did you run into some trouble yesterday? More demons?"

He pulled up a chair to have a seat and wait for Ianto and his tea, and tried his best to keep up the front of having no idea what had happened to Jack.

Oh but that put Jack into a good pout.

"You know very well what happened. I fell out of a tree."

"And didn't break his crown," Ianto crowed as he came in with the tea tray.

"That's enough outtah you," Jack growled.

Ianto smiled serenely and wandered back off in the direction of the kitchen.

With a smile of thanks to Ianto, Aziraphale poured himself a cup of tea and gave Jack a look that tried to be sympathetic, but was ruined by the grin that couldn't be quite hidden.

"And what, if I might ask, were you doing up in a tree?"

"I was demonstrating to Meg Manning how one climbs a tree," Jack said primly, sipping from the bottle of water Ianto had brought for him.

Aziraphale's eyebrows quirked upwards. "It rather sounds as though you were demonstrating how not to climb a tree," he remarked, over the rim of his teacup.

"Not at all," Jack said firmly. "I demonstrated very well how to climb the tree and I very wisely demonstrated the way not to climb out of the tree."

Jack sipped his water.

"I was covering all the basics."

Yeah, really ... he totally meant to fall out of that tree.

"Oh, quite," the angel agree, hiding another smile in a sip of tea. "So, you're all right then? Other than being bruised up, as you say? And Miss Manning isn't too traumatized by seeing a grown man fall out of a tree?"

"I made sure we both got right back up and climbed back up into the tree," Jack said with a nod.

Then he paused and smiled softly.

"I think, she enjoyed herself."

"Then I expect that's the most important thing, in the end," Aziraphale chuckled. "And it's good you helped introduce her to something new like that. I remember when James taught me to make snowballs for the first time. It seems like such a little thing, but when you've never done anything like that before...the fact that someone cared enough to take the time to share something new with you, it stays with you."

Jack thought back to the way Meg had looked at him when she'd been sitting in the tree and his expression sobered a bit.

"Mmm," he said in a non committal manner before taking another sip of water.

"Anyway, how was your weekend?"
