The Possibility

The soft feeling of satin sheets clashed with the feeling of her cotton pajamas in her state of waking, but her mind pushed it away quickly. It was too early to ponder the ways of logic. Instead she slowly opened her eyes to find the mess of untamed brown hair awaiting her. Her eyes swept down from his hair to his face, lying on her collar bone with his eyes shut lightly as he continued to sleep. Rose stifled a yawn so her sudden change in breathing would not disturb him.
As her hand toyed with his hair lightly her eyes swept around his room for what seemed like the millionth time. It was still the same - except for the articles of clothing lying on the floor. She looked up at the ceiling again as her mind slowly decided to process logic. It would soon be going on two years now: since she started traveling with the Doctor. In that time she had seen more alien races than she could count, had seen him technically regenerate twice, and had seen through her own biological clock. And now, nearly four months after meeting the small girl named Ming Ue Parker that would continue on to win three gold metals, she lay in the room of her companion and staring up at the ceiling.
She felt him rouse, his face nuzzling into her chest while his arms and legs stretched to their extent to rid themselves of the knots of sleep. She smiled as he slowly raised his head and their eyes locked. He managed grin, still half asleep, put pressed a kiss to her cheek. Rose gave him a small kiss and took advantage of the situation and rolled into his arms so he would not be able to leave the bed. She heard him sigh in defeat but held her close as her head rested on his bare chest. His fingers brushed her hair, lightly tugging at the knots.
“Morning.” She offered.
“Good morning.” He replied. Rose tilted her head back to find him with his eyes closed, but still brushing her hair. She frowned slightly.
“Are you feeling alright?” she asked.
He let out a sigh. “Exhausted.” He replied but paused. “Which is rather odd in itself, a Time Lord being exhausted, it’s usually unheard of you know.” He opened his eyes and met her eyes. “How are you feeling?”
Rose took a moment to sort her feelings into correct terms. “Well…I’m tired, but I feel wonderful. Does that make sense?” he gave a nod. Rose looked down at the blankets, her arms wrapped around his waist. “You know what we have to do today.”
He groaned in protested and dragged his hands down his face. “Rose do we have to do this?” he gave a protest. “You know I don’t like your mother - and that your mother doesn’t like me - so do we have to?”
“She has a right to know,” Rose stuck her tongue out as he rolled his eyes and ran a hair through his bed hair. Rose smiled and closed her eyes, listening two his two hearts beat.
He stared at the ceiling for a moment before looking back down at Rose. “Rose….” He stopped short as he realized she had slipped back into sleep. The Doctor lay quiet for a moment before carefully slipping out of the bed and changing into his daily clothes. He slipped on a dark blue dress shirt and his normal jeans, folding down the collar as he walked down the hall to the console room. The Doctor stopped short as he saw Darren sitting at the console with his feet up, tapping in the air at the song he had the TARDIS playing.
“Glen Miller’s In the Mood?” he asked as he walked past the ex-Time Agent as he pushed his feet off the console and flipped switches.
Darren grinned and sat up, tossing his magazine over his shoulder. “I figured it would fit!” he answered as the Doctor glanced over his shoulder at him. “So where we off to today Doc?”
“Powell Estate, London.” He replied and turned around as the TARDIS changed course. “Rose wants to go and….see her mother.”
Darren groaned. “Mother-in-laws,” he shook his head. “Can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em.” He looked at the Doctor and put his hands behind his head. “Although honestly I don’t know if you can consider her a mother-in-law, you two are betrothed or anythin’. Didn’t your people do that?”
“Yes we married,” the Doctor waved his hand. “Wasn’t really a point in doing so when the Looms were installed though….”
He stopped as a rapping at the TARDIS doors was heard. He sighed knowing the TARDIS had landed and quickly made his way to the doors, pulling it open to find none other than Mickey Smith standing there and waiting. The Doctor stood aside to let him in but the man shook his head.
“Nawh, I can’t…my ride is waiting for me…” he pointed over his shoulder where a car was waiting. “But, just to have you know, Jackie isn’t in town till tonight.”
“How’d you know about that?” the Doctor eyed him.
“Rose called.” Mickey shrugged. “Look, I got to go…but, good luck…” he paused and eyed the Doctor before turning and stalking into the car. The Doctor looked over his shoulder to see Darren pop his head over it and looking at Mickey. The Doctor quickly closed the door.
“Who’s that then?” Darren asked as he followed him.
“Rose’s old boyfriend.” He replied.
“Well, guess he isn’t going to take the news lightly yea?” Darren grinned. “Hey where’s Neu - what you doing?”
“I’m not going to wait on Jackie Tyler.” The Doctor said stiffly and turned a dial. The TARDIS reappeared again in the street and the Doctor folded his arms, waiting for the knock to come. It came and Darren bolted down to the doors, pulling them open to show the wrathful Jackie Tyler standing there with her hands on her hips.
Jackie pushed Darren aside and he stumbled back against the door frame. The Doctor stood, hands in his pockets as Jackie stood in front of him glaring at full wrath at the taller alien man. He glanced over the woman’s head at Darren as he closed the TARDIS door and attempted to sneak out of the room, but stood still as he noticed the Doctor’s gaze. He then looked back at Jackie with his eyebrows raised.
“You know, I don’t like people barging into my ship uninvited.” He said lowly and folded his arms.
“Who do you think you are?” Jackie raged, jabbing her finger into his shoulder. “First you dump my daughter back here for three months and then you just come and pick her up out of no where without letting me know?! Without telling me?! Where is she?”
“She’s sleeping.” He said simply. “Would you like to see her - oh of course you would. Darren, go get Rose.”
“She’s in…..” Darren nodded quickly and zipped down the hall. The two watched him leave and kept their gaze on the door frame and straighten as Rose entered the room with Darren creeping up behind them. The Doctor also caught site of Neu as she slipped into the room behind the two.
“Rose!” Jackie gasped and ran to her daughter, pulling her into an embrace. Rose was taken back but hugged her mother back. The two pulled away and Rose rubbed her eyes with a bright smile. Jackie inspected her daughter over and looked her in the eyes. “Rose, have you been putting on weight?”
The Doctor snorted and rolled his eyes while Rose gave a small smile. Jackie glared at the Doctor before turning back to Rose and waiting for an explanation. Rose glanced at her other companions who nodded (Darren gave her a thumbs up). Rose put her hands on her mother’s arms and looked at her seriously. “Mum….I have something to tell you.”
“What is it? What has he done?” Jackie asked, putting her hands on Rose’s arms. “Oh sweetheart don’t tell me that he has gotten you ill with some unknown virus or that you’ve been doing some sort of alien drugs.” The Doctor rolled his eyes again and fiddled with the TARDIS while Darren snorted. Rose laughed softly but shook her head side to side. “Well then Rose what is it?”
“Mum.” Rose started again. “You see…the Doctor, and I….well…” she attempted to find the best way to say it. Thankfully Neu came to her rescue.
“Miss,” Neu spoke. Jackie turned to the alien and nearly gasped at how alien she looked. Neu smiled softly and walked over to the two, taking Rose’s hand and holding it up. “You should not say such ills of the Doctor, he is a very experienced man and would not lead your child to such immoral things.” She smiled again. “In fact the news your daughter bears is of good tithing. You see, your daughter was meant to have a wonderful purpose in the universe….and she has already started it.”
“I don’t understand,” Jackie eyed the alien. “What purpose? Rose what have you done?”
“It is more of a matter of what she and the Doctor have done.” Neu spoke and looked over at the Doctor as he leaned against one of the pillars in the control room. Neu turned her attention back to the mother as she looked between her daughter and the Time Lord. “Miss, your daughter bears the first Gallifreyan child in the universe in over nine hundred years.”
Jackie stared at her daughter with the same expression when Rose had told her about her father. Her eyes went from Rose to the Doctor. “How sick is that….how old are you!? And what do you think you’re doing sleeping with my daughter? You’re an alien! What if something goes wrong and Rose ends up hurt?! What if -”
“Jackie Tyler, SHUT UP!” the Doctor yelled, his voice echoing through out the console room. He walked over to the three with the darkness in his eyes and Rose could see he was trying to keep his inner instability from rushing out. “Mocking me you can do, but you do not mock the decisions your daughter has made. Am I understood? Rose made the choice, it was up to her….and if I hear another insult to your daughter’s choice ever again I ….” He stopped himself, biting back the words.
“She’s mine. My companion….and if you dare remove her, I’ll kill you…”
He turned on his heel and stood against the console and refused to look at any of them. Jackie turned to look at Rose as the young woman moved to stand beside him, taking his hand and whispering. He shook his head side to side but Rose moved his head back to face her and continued to whisper. Neu turned her eyes back to Jackie as the woman slowly looked back at her. Neu nodded and moved aside for the woman to continue forward and stood beside Darren as the Doctor and Rose looked back at Jackie.
“So….” Jackie looked at the two. “Have you decided on a name for it?”
Rose looked at the Doctor then back at her mother. “No we haven’t decided on a name for her.”
“Her?” Jackie blinked. “It’s a girl? How do you know that? How far along are you Rose?”
Rose squeezed his hand. “We just found out about it….and we went to a planet called Aeys Unedimus…they have this machine there, Mum, it’s wonderful….it lets you see your children when they are still inside….and it was a girl….” She looked at the Doctor.
He looked down at Jackie. “By Gallifreyan times she is only about maybe a month along….for human times, about a week and some days.” He held his hand up to stop her before she could start. “The Gallifreyan pregnancies go much faster than humans, the fetus develops faster…but seeing how she is technically is half human and half Gallifreyan…it could be anywhere from three months to your normal nine months.”
“You’re staying home….aren’t you Rose?” Jackie looked at her daughter.
“No!” The Doctor spoke and Jackie glared. “Earth’s atmosphere at this time is too damaging for a baby Gallifreyan to live in for a great length of time. It would be like smoking when pregnant with a normal human child, Jackie.” He paused as the mother glared. “Jackie, would you want Rose to do anything to harm the child just because you don’t like me?”
Jackie looked away from the Doctor and back at her daughter. She shook her head and hugged her daughter tightly, an embrace Rose returned. “Rose, you come home as soon as you can. The baby should have the right to know her grandma.” She glanced at the Doctor, who to her surprise, nodded. “Can you stay for dinner at least?” she asked Rose. Rose looked at the Doctor, who again to Jackie’s surprise nodded and gestured to the door. However that didn’t full satisfy Jackie Tyler.
She grabbed the Doctor by the outstretched arm. “Come on then, you and I are going to have a talk.” Rose giggled and followed her mother and the Doctor out. The Doctor sent Neu and Darren a silent plea but Darren waved while Neu smiled. The doors of the TARDIS closed leaving the two companions standing there.
“How long you think it’ll be before he comes back runnin’?” Darren asked.
Neu looked at him. “When we hear the doors open and the complaining of ‘nut loaf’.”
“Nut loaf?” Darren raised his eyebrows at her. “Neu, that’s usually a Christmas thing - and it’s July…oh well there is the whole ‘Christmas in July’ joke. So why not?” he laughed and made his way to the kitchen while Neu went to prepare for the following day.
The TARDIS however sat there patiently and waited for when the two companions, technically three, would return and they could resume their adventures. There was so much more to see in the universe and all of time, and yet so little time to show them all. After all how could beings that did not live within the Time Vortex ever understand just how vast it was? She knew that her Doctor had a small taste of it because of his race, but the only other being to know was Rose Tyler, the ex-shop girl. Even then they could never understand how vast it was and how many possibilities there was for every discussion and choice.

"Clandestine" Sneak Peak

"Ranath, during the reign of the Celestial Empire." he explained as the TARDIS landed. His eyes darted over to the companions as they readied themselves with the clothing the ship had provided them with.
"I take it that it's cold?" Rose clicked her tongue as she moved the mask over her face. In retrospect it only covered her nose, mouth, and lower face while the hood hung over her eyes. She made sure the cloves and boots were on tight enough, and that the belt that hung around her waist was loose enough for her slightly showing stomache. She caught the Doctor's eyes as he gave her a small smile.
"Very!" he said a moment later, watching with amusement as Darren attempted to get the hood around his ponytail. "It's an eternal winter planet, but the civilizations are enclosed domes with heating provided...seems like the TARDIS missed her mark a bit, we'll have to walk."
"Is that a wise discussion?" Neu suggested as she fixed her own outfit. "Rose should not walk great distances...and you, yourself, will freeze in just a thin leather jacket Doctor."
"Doesn't he have that really long brown one somewhere?" Darren said with frustration at his apperance. "He can just go with that. He's a Time Lord, he has two hearts that give him extra warmth. He'll be fine!" Neu walked to him and helped him sit the hood on his head right.
"I suppose I can try," the Doctor turned the knob on the console to set the engines to move again. However the engines stopped as a loud rapping came from the door along with shouts. He looked over at the door. "Seems like the welcoming party is here."
