Okay...my first post on Time & Chips. Yay. I present you with the first Doctor Who fic I wrote. It's my post Parting of the Ways, so major spoilers.
Title: Ashes to Ashes
Rated: K
Characters: Rose, Nine, mention of Jack, Micky, Jackie and Margret. (TARDIS PoV - like the ship is talking to the Doctor.)
Spoilers: 2005 season
Summery: Oh my Doctor. I never really wanted this to happen, although I knew it must. My PotW response drabble fic. TARDIS POV. Contains spoilers.
Everyone has a PotW response fic. This is mine. I wrote this within the span of an hour and a half after I saw that episode. I admit I was crying and trembling, but writing this fic helped calm me down.
Disclaimer:I don't own anything Doctor Who related.
This fic is for Molly Fran, the only one who was there with me for every episode the first time through, even if she was asleep. She danced with me at the end of 'The Doctor Dances' and she gave me kisses when there seemed to be no hope. Good dog!
Oh, my Doctor. I never really wanted this to happen, although I knew it must. I tried though. I tried to do what you wanted. I didn't object when you used the sonic screwdriver to remote activate me. I locked my doors, preventing Rose from escaping. I played your good bye message to her and I took her home.
She cried, anguished. If I were organic, I would have held her close. Instead, I could only provide a wall for her to lean on.
She remembered when I opened up to Margret the Slitheen and got an idea. Mickey helped her. They tried to open me, but I resisted. I was not prepared for the truck her mother brought in though. I tried to hold on, but I am old. I cracked open and she saw into me. She saw the power I possess; all of time and space. And I saw into her. I had seen her before, but now I really saw her. I saw the love she has for you. She was willing to die to help you, to save you. The Time Vortex, in all its wonder, entered her and she willed me back.
I landed on Satellite 5. The Daleks were alerted to my presence, but I didn't care. Neither did she. Rose stepped out. She left her message across the universe, leading her back there. Bad Wolf. She killed the Daleks. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. She also revived Jack, bringing life where there was extermination. But it was too much for her. The power was killing her. You knew this, and you took it onto yourself to save her. Then you returned the power to where it belonged - inside of me.
But the damage was done. Not even a Time Lord can survive the power of the Time Vortex. I sensed your pain, even as the first signs of it appeared. You piloted me away. I gently woke Rose. I didn't want her to miss this. You tried to comfort her, even as your cells were dying. As you said your farewells to her as you were, I was already grieving for you, although I could not express it.
And then you were gone - gone but still there. Transforming in a golden light. The miracle of the Time Lords. The miracle of regeneration. Like the phoenix of Earth mythology, you died and were reborn. I've seen you go through this painful process many times, but I must admit, this one was special. It was special because she was there.
Oh, my Doctor. We are saddened, Rose and I, but this is not only an end. It is also a new beginning, and just think of all the new adventures we'll have together.
