A Common Room at SPD Headquarters, Newtech City, THE FUTURE

Jul 06, 2009 18:00

So she'd been here a week now, and her brain hadn't exploded from time displacement issues or a ton of new information yet. To celebrate getting through a week of orientation and training, Jen had staked out a couch in one of the common areas and was playing around with her shiny new SPD-issue laptop. It didn't have all the bells and whistles of ( Read more... )

I haven't seen them yet. They've had me up to my ears in orientation training since I got here.

We do have one tester, but . . . well . . . it's Boom.

So no.

"So remind me," Z said as she stomped into the room, "that the next time Kat says she'll look into doing something about our uniforms, what she means is, 'Get out of my office so I can go back to ignoring you.' Also, hi. The hi is from me, not Kat, and oh my God I have spent far too much time around Bridge."

"Again?" Jen looked up from her keyboard and kind of felt guilty about getting to wear a t-shirt (pink, duh) under the labcoat. "Hi, Z. Is she still saying they're perfectly breathable?"

Z nodded. "Blah blah actually space-age polymers blee. I kind of wish we'd never found that out. Syd's going to give herself nervous hives thinking about it, and then she'll convince herself she's allergic, and then none of us will ever get any peace."

"It would be wrong to suggest slipping a sedative into her drink, wouldn't it?" Jen said, whistling. Oh, Jen. Don't play innocent. It never works that well for you.

Who do we complain to about cabins? They have one called 'abarangers' and guess who didnt get to live in it this session?!! ME! I'm in one callde 'the Valley'. what does that even mean? Is this a bad omen? Oh, this is so not fair! How is the future past? Did I ever ask what you were doing at your job? Would it be bad taste to ask for spoilers? Hope you get this time-traveling email! Hi hi!

Jen spent several minutes laughing before she replied to that one.

. . .

THERE'S AN ABARANGER CABIN AND I MISSED IT?!?

The future past needs better air conditioning, and so far they've got me up to my ears in training. Hopefully, eventually I'll get to field-test some weaponry, but right now it's a lot of orientation. I expect to spend the next couple of weeks jabbing at fabric swatches with pins and moving up to bigger sharp pointy things from there.

By the way? It's really not spandex. Dr. Manx gets a little cranky if you imply it is. And so will Doctor K in a couple of decades or so.

Yay! You got my email! \(^_^)/

You're sewing? We had to use spandex for Ms Mode's class for our hero uniforms. It was okay, but not really very breathable. It moves well, though! We learned to use fabric tabe instead of pins, though, because pins leave holes.

AND I KNOW, RIGHT? I'm still here and someone put me- ME!!! - in the wrong cabin! I mean, who else totally dserves to be in that cabin?

It's not sewing so much as stress testing, but the high tech not-spandex stuff isn't all that breathable either. Self-healing, though. Although there's still some integrity issues with the fabric past a certain point.

Actually judging from some of the discussions I've heard around Dr. Manx's office, breathability in fabric is an ongoing issue.

Do you think a strongly worded email from the future would help with the cabin situation or would that be a bad idea?
