Coop update

I've been feeling better and I've gotten back on the wagon of gettin' stuff done!

I worked on the coop/garden shed this weekend. It's a (partially-rotting) plywood shed with a brick floor. I allocated a 2x6 section of the back for chickens, and the rest will be garden supplies.

Thanks! It feels so good to have a project functional, even though it's not 100% done.

Wow, I'm impressed! You didn't mention you are a carpenter too! Very cool

Love the space saving design and how it both allows you storage underneath and makes for easy cleaning.

*waves and says hi to your chicken people* Have they started laying consistently again?

I can't put my finger on it, but there's something especially cool about having a fig tree too. I don't think they grow around here.

I love building stuff!

Yes, the girls are laying again - I get almost two eggs everyday.

I don't really know much about figs - I've heard of people bringing them indoors.

I think you need to build a greenhouse on the side of your barn-to-be. :) It would be an easy addition....

It would be so easy to do a coldframe made from windows.

Did you ever seem my greenhouse that I built from used doors that I got at restore? If not, click my "greenhouse" tag.

Yes I do remember seeing that when I first starting following your lj... very impressed and it seemed such a shame you had to leave that behind when you moved! I hope the new owner appreciates it.

How warm did it get in there during the winter? Did the sun's heat and energy get trapped in there enough to keep it warm all winter or did you need an external heat source?

Well, it was definitely warmer than the outside world on cold, sunny days. However, our winters are so mild compared to yours. I would warm up pretty well.

You know, I never had a chance to grow anything in it. ;/ I have no idea if it is even still standing.
