Got me some booty!

A neighbor that I met on freecycle is moving and getting rid of a lot of materials.

I loaded up:
  • enough bricks to line the bottom of the truck bed and then some (I plan to pave between the garden beds, but I might make a platform for a garden table to stand on) Some of them are old Mexican bricks! They all have a great patina.
  • two above-ground deep ( Read more... )

Me too! I've been in scavenging mode lately, but I'm trying hard not to get too many unfinished projects going.

Wow, you got all that stuff for free?!!

I'm intrigued with the idea of freecycle, but I confess I have a bit of stranger danger fear. How did you go about meeting her? Did you correspond for a bit before you went to her house?

I guess that's what I get for growing up on the south side of chicago ;)

PS. I wanna see these mexican bricks! Perhaps a new photo entry coming on with all all this new cool stuff in use???? *hint hint*

I'm very picky about the whole freecycle thing. Where I lived before, when I would give stuff away, I would usually drag it out to the road, outside of my dog yard, so that way I could stay with the dogs in the fence.

Many people do "porch pickup." so I don't get to see them.

I usually take my dog Soap with me, too. He's friendly enough that he's not a liability (like the little black psycho), but he also is very protective. This woman happened to be someone I had met before through horses, and she lived right next to the park that we sometimes went to.

I think down south, we might tend to be a little more open to talking to strangers - perhaps it's a bit of a cultural thing. For instance, when I went to Boston for work, I was amazed at my coworkers who looked at me strangely when all I asked was, "Hey, how's it going?"
