I like the fence revival idea. Would be especially handy and whimsical for an herb garden!

I love these ideas - I looked through the photos - got lots of inspiration. I wish I had more quality time to do projects etc. Seems like I'm always just staying above water you know? I'm looking forward to getting old and putterin...... seriously.

I completely relate to just staying above water.

Where I used to live, there was a teenager I could bribe/barter/hire. His parents also would loan him out for manual labor when he was in trouble, and he was such a great worker. He actually liked the work, so it wasn't really punishment.

Sigh.

Will your job let you put in 9 hour days, then have every other Friday off? (or whatever the numbers add up to)

I wish I could do that here. But then again, I put in 9 or 10 hour days and I never get that time back, nor am I paid overtime.

I work 9 hour shift now 4 days a week and work 4 hours on the 5th day (which is Saturday - so it's like getting the weekend off as well as Wednesday). It's not a bad setup, but I hate working in an office under artificial lights tied to a headset - in Sept I'll have been doing it 6 years.... :-( I guess it could be worse. I want so badly to find a way to make my homestead my work - the main issue being the "benefits". I was hoping health insurance reform would make insurance affordable - - it's not looking like the lobbyists are going to allow that.

I've been "hamstering" it under the florescent lights for 6 years now. And like you, I was hoping that health care reform would enable me to be more on my own.

I miss freelancing.
