Ah, my beloved KTRU, 91.7FM. Rice Radio. I will miss you.

Sniff sniff! A lovely tribute.

I've never listened to the station but now even I miss them lol.

And now I have Lou Reed playing on the radio in my head thank you very much. *Searches inspector gadget for tunage*

They say radio waves go on forever and ever. Somewhere in a galaxy far far away you may meet again.

You can still listen to ktru at ktru.org. I think Blues in HiFi might have a pod cast, but I'm not sure.

Do you have a Pacifica station in your area? ours is kpft.org

As a rule, streaming music does not play well with my satellite internet. It keeps stopping to buffer and it drives me CRAZY.

I don't even know what a Pacifica station is? do tell

"Pacifica Radio is a listener supported community radio network of commercial free stations that serve their local communities and beyond." They have no corporate sponsorship - their money comes from pledge drives, benefit concerts and events, etc. They also use volunteers. Much more community based, instead of the one-way radio stations you hear so often.

Ah, so it kind of sounds like a younger, cooler, and more hip version on NPR!

I'm assuming they broadcast that by you? It's mostly a talk radio stations, but they do feature music sometimes too.

They do play some NPR programs, as does the station at the University of Houston. The main difference is that they get NO money from corporate or government sponsorship - purely listener-supported. Therefore they are able to remain completely independent.

I like This American Life.
