69 Memory Lane - Wednesday Morning

Oct 31, 2007 11:01

Jack and Ianto were hunkered down on their heels on either side of the brick columns that flanked the driveway up to their house. Jack was drilling holes in the morter while Ianto carefully feed through wires and occasionally stopped to check what looked like a PDA display resting by his left foot. Two travel mugs full of coffee were perched atop ( Read more... )

"But of home repair?" Nate asked, stopping to see what was going on. He did like to take a personal interest in things about town.

Poor Nate, out for a nice stroll and being so neighborly and now also standing there with one Webley revolver and one Glock SIG .357 pointed at his head and chest respectively.

It was the lack of the distinctive cyber twang to Nate's voice that kept both men from simply opening fire.

"Where the HELL did you come from?!"

[ooc: I can not think of any way shape or form that the guys wouldn't react 'badly' to Nate's cyberness. At least at first. ;)]

Nate could have gone straight for his own gun, but decided that might be a bad plan. He put up his hands. "Whoa now, gentlemen," he said. "I came by means of my feet, one after another, right down the street."

Ianto frowned.

Months spent with Lisa had given him some experience with Cybermen and this guy didn't exactly sound like Lisa had, even when she'd been playing at human for his benefit. Still, he took his lead from Jack and the Captain wasn't showing any signs of relaxing anytime soon.

"What is your mission objective in this town?" Jack snapped, absolutely ready to pull the trigger and secretly surprised that he hadn't yet done so, just out of habit. "Here to establish a base of operation from which to assimilate the rest of the population?"

Someone had escaped from captivity again. Rum had just had too much fun yesterday to give up his adventure just yet. So while the angel was puttering around decorating his house for the holiday, a fuzzy wee bunny headed out for a little more exploring.

He was hopping slowly down the road when he spotted two tall men doing something not-food-related and not-bunny-petting-related. This called for an investigation.

Jack had glasses on his face and was busy being destructive drilling into concrete so it was actually Ianto who noticed they had a small, wee guest.

Worried that the bunny might hop across Jack's workspace, the young Welshman got to his feet and moved towards the bunny, making gentle shooing motions with his hands.

Of course, this probably just meant his fingers looked ripe for bunny petting, right?

Yay! The tall man wanted to play! Rum hopped in exactly the opposite direction as intended and twitched his ears at the man. And then nuzzled the man's fingers with his wee bunny nose.

...

That was not the reaction Ianto was expecting and he sort of peeked over his shoulder to make sure Jack was safely occupied before hunkering down on his heels and tentatively brushing his fingers through soft bunny fur.

"Bold little fellow ... err, girl ... err, bunny aren't you?"

And lo, there was life outside Susan's apartment. She paused in her morning stroll to cant her head at it.

Pretty woman, this was bound to catch Jack's attention eventually and he straightened up with a winning smile.

"Good day, Ma'am!"

Susan... blinked. People didn't often smile at her like that and when they did, it often meant that they wanted something from her. Eventually she nodded back politely. "Good Morning."

Giving Ianto's shoulder a quick touch in a silent bit of communication, Jack moved away from where they were working and down towards Susan.

"What brings a lovely lady out on a lovely day?" He asked, still smiling winsomely.

Ianto looked up and arched an eyebrow because he was certain Jack had mentioned something about there not being any children under the age of 14 running around but he gave the youngster a nod just as Jack turned and smiled brightly at the boy.

"Hey there!" He greeted young Dean easily. "We are running wires from that house back there to this block of bricks here. What are you doing?"

Dean shrugged. "Nothin'." He crouched down to look closer. "If you're putting in a security system, you should make a little trench connecting the two pillars and fill it with salt. And maybe some cats' eye shells on the pillars. Or some five-spots."

Hey, he may be eight, but he still knows his protective charms like nobody's business.

Jack arched a surprised eyebrow at the knowledge coming from such young lips and he shared a quick look with Ianto before shoving his hands in his pockets and looking back at the youngster.

"Maybe a bit closer to the house, sometimes you can learn from the enemy if you let them close enough to study. I'm Jack by the way, do you live around here?"
