"Ianto!" Jack's bellow carried through the entire house from the upper floors to the lower and eventually it drew the young man in question out of what looked like a large storage closet ( Read more... )

Aziraphale's discussion with Connor at the clinic yesterday had once again cemented the idea that there just wasn't a whole lot he could do to take care of the people in this town. In an effort to stave off another bout of brooding, he'd decided to do something rather unprecedented.

He packed up a box of goodies -- mostly baked goods, along with a couple tins of tea and some coffee -- and walked over to Memory Lane. Figuring that if Ianto wasn't able to get out and enjoy the festivities, then maybe some of the festivities should come to him.

Walking up the path toward the door, Aziraphale spotted the Captain inspecting the grounds, and called out toward him. "Er, good morning, Captain Harkness!"

Jack was currently glaring up into a tree and trying to decide if he wanted to move the tiny camera up in it's branches for the 5th time since he'd placed it a week earlier.

He was not expecting visitors and whipped around rather sharply when he heard the angel's voice. However, his tense stance relaxed almost immediately and he shoved his hands in his pockets and strolled towards the angel coming up the drive.

"Well! Good morning, Aziraphale. To what do I owe the honor of a visit?"

Well that was an interesting response. Aziraphale filed it away for future consideration, and gave the man apologetic smile, holding out the box he was carrying.

"My apologies, my dear, I don't mean to intrude. I brought some things for Mr Jones, since he wasn't able to come to the party the other night. If he's in, I can just, er, nip up to the house and drop it off."

"That's very kind of you," Jack said and without further ado he reached up and touched the device currently curled around his ear.

"Ianto? We have a guest, we'll be up to the house presently." Which rather translated to get out of the closet, lock it back up and look as if you were doing something boring, like the dishes.

Lowering his hand, he turned to fall into step beside the angel, a beautific smile on his face.

"So, how are you doing?"

Jack was watching Aziraphale closely and between one moment and the next he suddenly launched into an over the top set of tales that had absolutely nothing to do with anything except they were entertaining ( ... )

Aziraphale plainly enjoyed the talk, listened closely to the stories, laughed at Jack's antics, shared occasional knowing chuckles with Ianto, and gave every indication that this was precisely his reason for being there -- a social call, to share tea and hear tales.

He should have expected Jack to delve deeper at some point, but the angel never quite managed to learn how really very poor he was at putting up a facade. Still, he shook his head ruefully and ran his thumb over the edge of his teacup. "Does it have to be anything more than just a visit?" he asked quietly.

[ooc: Aww! *hugs on Jack and Ianto*]

"Of course not," Jack exclaimed but then he leveled the full force of penetrating blue eyes on the angel and arched his eyebrows. "However, in this instance I get the feeling that perhaps it was?"

Giving a little half shrug, Aziraphale nodded. "I suppose I had something of an ulterior motive. Mostly just looking for a bit of company outside the house. And I knew that you wouldn't ask me for help that I can't give you. It's funny, isn't it, how you want to help the people who won't ask you for it, but when they do, it always seems to be for something you haven't any idea how to fix. Except for drastic measures, and those aren't usually much appreciated."

He paused to take another swallow tea, thoughtful for a moment, and then added, "And I really did feel bad about Mr Jones missing the party, after he mentioned that you'd talked about it. That wasn't an excuse, you know. It should have just been a social call, without any strings, but I've been right negligent about making those."
