Jack was futzing with the security system.

To be precise he was down by the front gates, stretched out on his back working with a nest of wires that were buried up in the brick columns.

Why was he futzing with the security system?

Because he didn't have an Impala to dither over.

Vanessa was exploring the woods and town and marveling at all the differences between this world and her own, when she came upon someone stretched on his back and being attacked by strange looking snaky things.

She rushed forward to help. "Stay still! I will be right there!"

Jack, who was currently stripping a wire, poked his head out from under the pillar and looked around to see if he was somehow missing someone in trouble.

"Huh?"

"The snakes!" Vanessa said. "Have they bitten you? Don't move, I can make them stop."

Strange, though, as she moved forward, reaching out with her thoughts, she realized that these were not indeed snakes or any living thing and she stopped looking very confused.

Snakes?

Jack whipped his head around, looking about himself.

"Snakes?" He exclaimed and went to sit up, which resulted in his cracking his head against the brick.

"OW!"

Dean wandered up. "Somethin' wrong with your security system?"

"It was doing something," Jack said, which was probably oh so informative.

Chuckling, Jack rolled his eyes but smiled a little lopsidedly as he reached for a set of wires.

"Exactly," he admitted.

"I've got to admit," the Master said as he knelt down beside Jack. "For a backwards human, that's pretty good work."

Jack chuckled and peeked down along his torso at the Master Doctor.

"I'm not backwards, I'm merely upside down." He pointed out with a wink. "Afternoon Master Doctor, haven't seen you for a bit."

"Afternoon Jack," the Master said as he peeled off his coat and loosened his tie. "I've been toying with the old girl. I've got her motor running, but the steering wheel's sticking a bit. Mind if get down there and take a closer look with you?"

Taking a breath, Jack stopped the words in his throat as he felt a wash of something akin to ... leariness in having the Master Doctor so close to his security system but he quickly shook it off, calling himself silly.

Maybe Dean was more right then he knew. I'm being stupidly paranoid.

"Not at all!" Jack said, shifting his broad shoulders slightly to the side to give the Master Doctor room to get into the small space and poke around.
