It had taken only slightly longer than expected for the fuel to run low. It was inevitable though, there was only so much time you could spend floating in space. Even if they'd had all the fuel in the galaxy, eventually they'd have needed more food or water... Landing was unavoidable, it was something they'd both known and anticipated ( Read more... )

"The last time I was here, I had a little disagreement with Nikolai," he said casually. "If we don't stay, he'll think I'm scared and I can't have anyone here thinking that. Bad for business."

A little disagreement was such a sanitized way to say he'd spent three weeks tied up in a sub-basement, unwilling to give up a contact on Nanshii. Small price to pay. He bounced right back once they'd let him go.

"Besides, this one here's just about your speed," Jack grinned. "Come on."

"Business," John echoed with a snort. "And what exactly is your business now, Jack?" he asked, not arguing about where they were going as he followed the other man.

John hummed a little in reply, scratching absently at his arm as he followed Jack into the casino. He paused once they were in the lobby, frowning slightly and looking around, before breaking into a grin.

"Been here," he announced cheerfully. "Met a nice young man here," he said with a wolfish grin, all teeth as he turned to look at Jack. "The places he let me stick my gun... And that's not a euphemism," he added smugly, tugging his coat closed to hide his guns.

"Come on, let's get a drink," he suggested, nodding towards the bar his worries long forgotten.
