It was turning out to be a busy month. First, Dark Bahamut's presence in Mysidia, now myrrh-gathering in Midgar...and soon, heading to the Water Shrine. Still, if Rydia was exhausted by the amount of work that had to be done, she wasn't showing it. The summoner had faced a more pressing schedule in the past, and she wasn't about to complain.

As the trio entered the ruins, Rydia peered around warily. This was a particularly bad place to be caught off-guard, so she planned to do her best to thwart that. Not knowing her way around the ruins of the city, she simply followed Steiner. As they drew closer to the tree, she raised her eyebrows.

"A metal scorpion? Do we know anything else about it?" Learning weaknesses were particularly important for those who used black magic...though if push came to shove, she supposed Bahamut and his Mega Flare could take care of nearly anything.

"Don't worry about it, Rusty. Me and Rydia can handle it." In Eiko's esteemed opinion, there was little if anything one summoner, much less two, couldn't handle. Between herself and Rydia they were a magical powerhouse, covering just about any need: summoning, white or black. Still, she stole a glance up at her new guardian. He'd treated her like a partner, not a kid and she quite liked that, and didn't want to leave him out of the loop.

He'd thought himself prepared for the site of Midgar in ruins, he'd heard what had happened to it, but the site of it was something far more than he had really expected. There were some landmarks he could still pick out to navigate by despite natures apparent best efforts to reclaim the place. So far things were going well enough it would seem, but he never trusted even what could be very well a temporary respite ( ... )

"A sound tactic," Steiner agreed. "And that is all I have heard, Rydia..."

Moogles had reported the presence of the creature and unfortunately they weren't well-versed in battle tactics, their strategy being to run away. Steiner and his allies would have to discover the weaknesses of this metal scorpion themselves.

They had to fight their way through various familiar but not difficult monsters to reach the tree: fairly standard work so far. There was barely a dent in Steiner's armour as he paused to regard the monument. A comet? Perhaps a religious icon. But there was no time to ponder this, as the myrrh tree's guardian appeared. It was no living creature, but instead some kind of machine.

Steiner raised his sword as the scorpion scanned them, its laser eye passing over each of its enemies. "Stay back!" he called to Eiko and Rydia, and charged in to strike at his foe.
