It may work on the people in your world, but how are you sure it'll work on the people from other worlds?

A direct method, and you do at least make perfectly clear what you intend to do to those who break the law.

What would you do in the case of power outages or mechanical failure?

I can just wait. The processing only takes a few hours and can last months.

Ah, I see. It seems to be a sort of technologically accelerated psychiatric program, and would cut down on repeat offenders. I do favor rehabilitation over extended incarceration- it is more humane and better for society as a whole to do such things.

I am curious about how technology would go about affecting the mind itself instead of just changing what is perceived through the senses. Is the circuitry and programming a matter of public record?

I apologize but it isn't public. If reverse engineered, it can be modified to be used for brainwashing.

For how it works, basically it uses a key action to activate the processes it implements. Say the key action is the thought of punching someone. When the synapses in the brain fire relaying that message, your own brain will step in and change the message to something harmless such as rubbing your head.
