I said I'd spam you with fic, and I think I'm doing so. :P Also, I will get to a historical AU soon. I have an idea brewing for it, and it'll take me a little bit longer, but hopefully I can get it done pretty quickly.

Disclaimer: Yep, Christian Kane told me all of this. *nod* Or, you know. I could’ve just been daydreaming.
Author's Notes: I had to write something about the concert at Dante’s, and I figured it would be good to do something nice from Chris’ point of view, since I sort of felt bad picking up the old cliché of making him the bad guy in
Coming Home. :P
Chris has to admit that he’s surprised when Jensen actually comes up on stage to sing with him. Sure, it’s for his birthday, and Jensen’s never been one to let a friend down. But Jensen’s always been the shy type. The guy’s a hell of an actor when he slips into a character, but once he sheds that character’s skin, he humbles himself and just becomes regular ol’ Jensen Ackles, who thinks he’s nothing special and that he should leave the other gigs to those who are more capable, despite his own talents. Chris knows from past experiences that Jensen can sing, and that he can do it pretty damn well. Hell, everybody who’s in Jensen’s circle of friends knows it. They’ve all seen him at parties and at each other’s houses picking up a guitar and joining in on harmonies like there’s nothing to it. But ask him to actually get up on stage with a real band in front of a real crowd of people, and he politely refuses, taking a step back and insisting that he’s not cut out for this sort of thing.
Of course, Steve and Jason were finally able to convince Jensen to pick up some vocals on their tracks, and Jensen finally joined Jason at the mic at one of the Supernatural conventions. Chris used that for leverage (no pun intended) when he started working on convincing Jensen to sing with him at Dante’s. He gave him a whole speech about how Jensen managed to sing with everybody but him, and that it was his birthday, and it would be a good time, and couldn’t Jensen just do him this one little favor? He was surprised even then when Jensen agreed quicker than usual, the speech almost seeming unnecessary.
He looks at Jensen now, bounding up on stage, grinning and singing into the mic and jamming to the music, and he can’t help but grin back. And even as he sings, he realizes that Jensen has changed. They all have, really. That’s what happens when you get older. But Jensen hasn’t just gotten stronger or wiser. There’s a confidence within him now that he didn’t have before. And it isn’t just the alcohol taking over. He’d love to give himself or their old group of friends all the credit, but the truth is, he knows where the credit is due.
Jared Padalecki. Chris looks over at Jensen, sees him high on life and energized by the music pouring out into the club and no doubt reverberating even outside the walls, and he somehow sees Jared there; knows that Jensen wouldn’t have come this far if it weren’t for Jared’s own cautious confidence, infectious laughter, and undying loyalty and support. As much as Chris and his friends have been on Jensen’s case about opening up and joining them before, he knows it’s Jared’s influence that has Jensen not only agreeing to sing, but enjoying himself like there’s no tomorrow, inhibitions flung out the window.
He remembers being skeptical of Jared, the hyper, playful guy who broke down the barriers of personal space and loaded up on sugar all day long. He honestly didn’t expect Jensen to take to Jared the way he did, figuring the kid would be a magnet for the public eye and invasion of Jensen’s privacy. But, he’d been wrong. Jared’s outgoing personality didn’t really mean trouble, and the kid was more considerate and affectionate than anything. He’d opened Jensen up, brought out the man they’d all known was locked somewhere deep inside of him, and secured a place right in the center of Jensen’s heart. Chris isn’t one for too much sappy romanticism, but, looking at Jensen now, he can’t deny that the love Jensen has found in his relationship with Jared has made him stronger; lifted him to new heights.
Chris doesn’t miss the bit of extra applause in the club or the shouts of Jensen’s name. He looks out at the crowd under the dim lights and then looks back over at Jensen, sharing a grin with the man who now seems intoxicated by the performance, voice fitting into the harmonies as well as anyone’s could. He’ll have to remember to thank Jared later.
