Well, this was obviously not going to be his day.
With a sigh, he dropped out of the ceiling duct and headed for the console room, his glasses hanging limply in hand. He passed through the kitchen on his way by, and he couldn't help but stop and stare a bit at what was going on in there.

Once Romana sat down to study the Mickey Mouse Cookbook, she discovered that it was 1) extremely easy to understand and 2) a kind of Rosetta Stone for the other incomprehensible cookbooks which were more detailed, but not as basic in scope. And upon finding a book that made sense, an ambitious fervor overtook Romana. Not only was she going to erase the embarrassment of the Bread Fiasco from the other day, but she was going to show herself as a skilled chef in the making. Clearly, the Doctor was in some state of shock over this fact. It could've been the fact that the Lady High President of Gallifrey, one who had, at one time, been in control of the most powerful species in the universe, was rattling off foodstuffs she was making---and where had they gotten asparagus? He really needed to stop Aislinn from shopping, she was filling his TARDIS with too many healthy foods!---that she apparently learned how to make through Mel's copy of that Mickey Mouse book ($29.999, Disney World Exclusive) and the Joy of Cooking. Perhaps Romana had psychically bonded the two books, creating a whole book of brilliance?
The black smoke was also rather disconcerting, but the smells also managed to make his stomach growl.
Alluvasudden, the Doctor's face broke into an enormous grin. "Sounds delicious. Is it my birthday?"

Romana looked extremely pleased with the transformation of The Doctor's visage from confused to delighted. "It might be, I suppose. Or one of those other things from that 'Alice' book -- Not-birthdays? Anti-birthdays? One of those. It should all be ready in..." She paused to consult various timing devices. "Half an hour. If Aislinn or Rose are about, could you ask them if they might help me get the table set? Proper presentation always makes a difference, I daresay."
