Yup, it is an idea that has been going around in my head for so long. I don't think i really did it justice, but I thought it was about time I at least tried!
I would love to see what you could write to go with that song. I bet you could come up with something really dark and powerful, like the lyrics and his voice. (yes, that is a challenge/request/plea)
Gorgeous! And so bittersweet. My heart broke a little for Ianto when I realized that his one moment of hope during this whole scene came when he thought Jack would shoot him!
As I read this it was easy to picture it as an extended scene of the show, with Ianto kneeling by the Cyberwoman's body and throwing back his head and howling. And then Jack coming in to comfort him, with the song playing underneath the whole time. A long-lost "director's cut", perhaps!
Alas, while exploring Ianto's backstory and the "Cyberwoman" episode proved incredibly cathartic for me for a couple of years, I think I'm done telling stories in that 'verse. It just doesn't resonate with me the way it used to. So I'll have to pass on your request, with sincere regret. :(
Thank you for reading this. (Sorry for my late reply - I'm just going through the series now adding links between the chapters and found your comment).
I don't think the scene really needed the extended "director's cut" - GDL put so much emotion into it that there wasn't much more to say. But I am pleased you think it worked. And I would really have liked to have seen the BBC use some of Blue Gillespie's songs in the sound track. This one would have been perfect.
It is a shame you feel you have written all you have to say in this verse. Yours was one of the best dark voices of the fandom. I will continue to read your Sherlock fics because it's you, but I don't have the same emotional attachment to them.
I'm sure Ianto would appreciate that, but you'll have to wait until after Jack has finished hugging him.
Have you heard the song? I love it, one of my absolute favourites. I've been wanting to use it in a fic for so long. This wasn't quite what I had in mind, but it is what it is. Maybe I'll try again one day....
Besides, if I haven't heard a song you mention in a fic, I go and youtube it. You owe me one for that Tenessee Birdwalk. That is something I can never un-hear!
There is a link in the author's notes at the top - go have a listen. Even if it's not your usual thing, it is an excuse to hear Gareth's voice. Some of his songs are quite angry and shouty, but this one is actually quite melodic and he does have a great voice.
Whilst you're there you might like to check out this one too - http://bluegillespie.bandcamp.com/track/the-swamp - not much singing in it, more of a tone poem than a song, but GDL's voice is really quite hypnotising as he reads it.
Blue Gilespie is the kind of music I like. GDL's great voice, some deep lyrics, Nick Harrison's amazing drums, what's not to like :-)
