Tomorrow is the start of our ten-day break. I take a 7:30 am train to the Pisa airport, arriving at 10:30 am, just before the TRAIN STRIKE THAT IS ONLY TOMORROW FROM 11AM-3PM, so I can wait there until my 4:25 pm flight. Not that I'm upset about the strike or anything....
But it's all okay because I'm going to Paris! And then Scotland and then Ireland. And seeing John and Julia, who I have not seen in a long time. Much excitement. Hopefully I will adjust alright to being in English speaking countries and dealing with those weird plugs and of course certain sterling currencies in certain parts of the United Kingdom. My laptop is not coming with me, so I will be basically incommunicado. I was hoping to have posted all my pictures before I left, but it is not to be. There are two new albums in my google pictures, though. One is mainly of my weekend in
Cinque Terre (LINK!), a place on the coast somewhat northwest of Tuscany, where there are five (Cinque) small towns (Terre) along the coast, each with their own little cove, with very pretty coastline with cool rock formations between which people can hike. Or stroll, if you only do the easy hikes like we did. The second little album is of my program's excursion to the next region over, Umbria, where we went to an emigration museum, Assisi (birthplace of St. Francis), and the
Perugina chocolate factory (LINK!). Sadly, neither Oompa-Loompas or any version of Johnny Depp was to be found there. They probably hide them very well. Upcoming albums are Roman and my day trip to San Gimignano, whose name I cannot pronounce, which is a small city near Siena with medieval towers and awesome gelato. This will be followed by pictures taken in Siena's underground aqueducts (I Bottini) and in nearby Montalcino, where we went wine-tasting. Which will eventually be followed by epic pictures of me in Paris, Scotland, and Ireland!
In other news, I finally got to talk to the people at the public library of Siena today, and they're letting me volunteer there! I start the Monday I get back. So exciting tales of that to come. Check out the pictures, enjoy, and email me because I will surely be lonely after I see my friends from home and then come back here where there are no friends from home.
I love you all!
