I wasn't going to do this but looks like I need to write down all these thoughts and ideas percolating in my head. :)
Episode 14 was another gamechanger. What will happen now? Shi Hyun has lost the reason that made him take upon his Paksa persona in the first place? His world has started to crumble around him and the cracks brought on by years of being subjected to the stresses of his lifestyle, his two identities, are getting wider. Now that the relationship with his mentor and handler is busted up, he really doesn't have anyone he can trust or rely on fully anymore.
Safari is such a crafty S.O.B, he's very adept at psycological warfare and he knows his opponent far too well. I've said it before but Shi Hyun gets too emotionally attached to people and this is his major achille's heel. Which is why Safari has the upper hand when it comes to mindgames. He knows how to manipulate Shi Hyun and even though SH usually catches on, it's often too late.
I've been wondering why Shi Hyun doesn't seem to realise/care that Pusan isn't the end game, there are people more powerfull above Chairman Jo. Commissioner Min sure knows, probably Safari too and Hyung Min is starting to put the pieces together as well. Has SH been so focused on his mission to infltrate the Pusan oraganisation that he hasn't looked any further? He is smart enough, so he should have been able to do 2+2=4. Comm. Min's hard-on for Pusan probably stems from the fact that he doesn't know or can't prove who the big boss/bosses are and getting someone inside the Pusan end would have given him a leg up to finding out more. Too bad he lucked out on Safari and Shi Hyun wasn't able to make it either in the end.
Which brings me to another thing. The way Shi Hyun went about the whole Pusan debacle was a serious miscalculation. He forgot one of the major rules when dealing with pissy bosses who are sensitive of their position in an organisation. Never make them think you are a threat. Either to their authority or position. SH should have just arranged Scale to have a major cock up and then swooped in to save the day. Stealth is always better than a full frontal attack. Just saying.
I love this show but I'm not blind, it has it's flaws, mostly in the writing department. The blips are not big enough to make me care but there are silly things like who in their right mind goes to meet a drug kingping with a phone that as the contanct info intact? Especially someone who's supposed to be very smart. That was lame. Shouldn't he just memorise all his major contacts so as not to have to rely on his phone? In the days before cellphones I had several phonenumbers I could call up at will. I still remember many of them. But this was just a rather stupid plot device to get Soo Min in danger and in a way that'll come to bite them later on for sure. It could have surely been done with more finesse?
I know I wrote in my last post that they are all prolly going to die. I doubt that'll happen though. I'm almost sure that Shi Hyun will stay alive, probably alone and irreversibly changed. Wheter TPTB will leave him any of his nearest and dearest is open for debate but I'm betting Soo Min at least will be toast. It ain't noir if there is a light shining, even in the distance.
The irony if Shi Hyun manages to emerge victorious and ends up as the next kingpin, working for the same big boss/bosses he was supposed to help take down.
