The other evening Mr. Step called for all of us to come downstairs. We have two staircases that lead to the basement -- one off the living room, one off the kitchen.
This is the wall we have been looking at for the past year.
But, Mr. Step noticed that it might not be a wall.
Sure enough, a very old fridge was under the stairs. Probably from when the house was built in 1946.
Here is the mechanical operations for the fridge.
We also discovered (and if you look very closely you can see it against the back wall) that the original leftover pieces of wood floor were stashed under the stairs. We pulled it out tonight. Much of it is still in good shape. Hopefully, floor guy will be able to use some of it when he does our floors in the bedroom (from the renovations) in Sept.
Quite amazing that a house built in 1946 still has wood stored in a basement still in such good shape.
