Hello !

I know what you're going to say, another sad video ...
This one was inspired from the Merlin novel "The Death Of Arthur" which tells the story of the final episode of series 1 but with a lot more details. The thing that is really great about the novels is that you have an insight of the characters, you can see what they're thinking while they're doing something. I plan to do a few more videos like this inspired from passages of the novels.

For this round, we had to make a video about emotion and first I wanted to make a tribute video for Brian and Justin about the season 1 finale of Queer as Folk but I don't have the episodes yet so I did this instead.

The video is focused on Merlin's sacrifice about giving his own life to save Arthur from certain death after having beeen bitten by the Questing Beast.
In the episode we don't really see how Merlin is taking it emotionally. We see him struggling, and of course Colin's performance is incredible, but in the novel we get his thoughts. The sacrifice is something he does without really questionning it, it's is destiny to protect Arthur. In his mind, when the Questing Beast has bitten Arthur, Merlin believes he has failed and the only way to fix this is to give his lfe for the Prince. In the novel, we have this very moving and powerful passage about the scene when he is sitting on his bed waiting for death to come. Then, he starts questionning what he's done. He's afraid and don't want to die but knows that it is coming and there's nothing he can do to stop it. Then he asks himself how he is going to die. He makes a countdown. How can it just stop? Will it be some kind of horrible death? Will Nimueh send him some of the worst creatures he has ever thought of? Or will it just end like this? Will his heart just stop? Without any reasons. How could everything just stop?

When I first read this passage in the novel, it made me cry. I really could feel how Merlin was scared to die, still so young and full of expectation about life but it all ends just like that.

I hope that I managed to pass the emotions in the video, of course it won't be as powerful as in the novel but I still hope it will move you.

The editing in this is quite simple, I did not want to add too many effects because the focus must be on Merlin's emotions.
