[ Character's Age ] : That’s an interesting question! He gives a different answer each time he is asked, but the 10th Doctor puts his age at somewhere in the 900's.
[ Canon Point ] : Series 3
[ History ] : The Doctor has a really long history, since Doctor Who has been running since 1963 (with breaks) and since he is about 900 years old. I am not even going to TRY to write out that history. Read
The Doctor's wikipedia page. Perhaps this is tl:dr? for a synopsis. Read up on the 9th and 10th Doctors if that is too much tl;dr.
[ Personality ] : The 10th Doctor is somewhat of an optimist and acts generally joyous and bouncy. The Doctor is, in reality, still getting over the loss of Gallifrey, and is thus prone to darker moods. Some may say he is a bit bipolar. He does not show his darker side much, unless someone hurts one of his friends or some great injustice is being done.
He is fiercely loyal to those he trusts. Get on his good side, and you'll have a steadfast friend for life.
He's still a bit touchy about his past, especially concerning the Time War. He will probably attempt to divert the topic when asked of Gallifrey or the other Time Lords. If he is pinned down, his answers will be vague.
The Doctor is a staunch pacifist. He has a strong dislike of weapons, and refuses to use them unless the need is extremely great. As such, when directly assaulted, or if the situation is likely to degrade into a direct assault, the Doctor usually runs. When he reaches a safe area (or one that seems safe), he will plan his next step.
The Doctor is clever and curious. Things that are unknown to him or seem out of place are great mysteries which need to be investigated. When investigating, the Doctor is very perceptive and quick to spot small details, although sometimes the larger details may need to be pointed out to him. If the Doctor thinks there is a mystery to be solved, he is usually compelled to solve it. He is unable to accept defeat, even if it is clear that he has lost.
The Doctor may seem goofy and somewhat ADHD, but he has strong sense of justice, which is backed by a compulsion to help. If a form of life is being taken advantage of, he will work to save it. In such situations, the Doctor is afflicted with a righteous anger, and will stop at nothing to right the wrongs set before himself. Wrong-doers get one chance to repent, or else the Doctor will unleash his wrath.
This particular regeneration has a fondness for licking things. He can tell the composition of most objects by licking them.
The Doctor also likes the sound of his own voice. He will babble on incomprehensibly about the most random things, presumably to make himself sound smarter to his companions. He also hates it when people don't listen to him. If he says, "Don't wander off", he means it. (Not that anyone ever heeds that warning, but still...)
The Doctor enjoys messing around with technology and is quite competent with it. One of his favorite things to do when not off solving mysteries and righting wrongs is to tinker with his TARDIS (or whatever else is on hand at the time).
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
The Doctor is an alien called a Time Lord. Time Lords are flesh and blood just like humans. If you cut the Doctor, and he'll bleed. Shoot him, and he'll (most likely) die. The Doctor's body is pretty similar to a human's, other than he has two hearts. He doesn't have super strength or laser vision and can't do magic.
He can, however, communicate with telepathic beings and has senses beyond a human's.
The Doctor does not always understand humans or their culture. Often times, he'll point out something bluntly, because he cannot tell when he is being rude.
The Doctor is stubborn and can't always tell when to call it quits, especially when he's angry. The Doctor is called the "Oncoming Storm" for a reason.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
The Doctor has a sonic screwdriver, which is sort of his get-out-of-jail-free-card in many situations in the show. Unfortunately, it broke as soon as he got to Vatheon, so it currently only functions as a normal screwdriver or a (very poor) flashlight. The Doctor lives in the TARDIS, which looks like a blue police box on the outside, but has a spacious, futuristic interior. The TARDIS can technically function as a time machine, but the time router is currently not functioning, so the TARDIS is currently stationary, much to the Doctor's dismay. He has a "slightly psychic paper" that he uses to receive stray telepathic messages. He also can use it to make people see false accreditation, which sometimes helps in his investigations. The slightly psychic paper does not work on telepaths, those who have received psychic training, and those who are extremely intelligent.
The pockets in his outfit are bigger on the inside than the outside, much like the Doctor's "spaceship" the TARDIS. I'll try not to pull anything ridiculous out of his pockets, however.
[ Sample ] :
The TARDIS lurched and shook. It was not uncommon for the TARDIS to do so, but this particular time, it was accompanied by the sound of the Cloister Bell. The TARDIS's lights flipped to a red hue and the time router whined. Nothing good ever happened when the Cloister Bell went off.
The Doctor threw on his Brainy Specs and ran over to the TARDIS's monitor. The screen was a mess of flickering colors. The Doctor slapped the side of the monitor a few times, but his efforts were in vain.
"Aaagggh!" the Doctor cried. "How am I supposed to know what's wrong if you will not tell me?" To be fair, the Doctor normally didn't need to be told what was wrong, but he'd never seen the TARDIS act this way before. In truth, it scared him a bit.
The TARDIS's temperature controls suddenly went haywire. It was blustering hot the one second and freezing the next. It had even started to rain at one point. "Since when does the TARDIS have a 'rain' function?" As if to make a point, the rain began to pour. The Doctor stowed away his Brainy Specs, since they had become covered in water droplets.
Rolling his eyes, the Time Lord futilely flipped switches and pressed buttons. The Cloister Bell still continued to clamor; nothing had changed.
The Doctor flipped a specifically impressive looking switch. The time router stuttered laboringly and then stopped.
"No. No no no no no no NO! Don't do that!" the Doctor shouted, frustrated. The TARDIS lurched one final time and threw the Doctor to the floor.
The Cloister Bell fell silent, though the red warning lights stayed on. The Doctor pulled himself to his feet. The rain had finally stopped, but the Doctor was still soaked. With a sigh, he stripped off his overcoat and squelched over to the TARDIS's console.
Perhaps these shoes were not the best choice, he thought. The Doctor wiggled his toes in his sodden canvas Converses. He considered them briefly, and then stripped his shoes and socks off and threw them in a pile with his overcoat.
The Doctor half heartedly fiddled with the TARDIS's console. No response. He pulled out the sonic screwdriver and aimed it at the time router, but the screwdriver burst into sparks. Alarmed, the Doctor dropped his sonic screwdriver.
"Oh for crying out-." The Doctor shook the hand that had been holding the screwdriver, which had now gone numb. "I used my last tetronis modulator to make that screw driver!" the Doctor exclaimed to no one in particular. The Doctor ran his not-numb hand through his hair, which had been plastered to his head by the rain, in annoyance. This act caused his damp hair to stick up at ridiculous angles, not that the Doctor noticed.
The Doctor bent over to pick up the still smoking sonic screwdriver. Though it was charred on the outside, it still light up when he turned it on. And it still made the whirling noise. That was good. The whirling noise was one of the most important functions of the sonic screwdriver. The Doctor would have missed the noise if the sonic screwdriver had been broken completely. It was almost as comforting and familiar as the sounds that the TARDIS made. He returned the sonic screwdriver to the pocket inside his jacket.
I suppose I'd better see what's going on outside. Maybe the locals have a spare tetronis modulator, the Doctor thought dejectedly. The Doctor paused to give one last look at his broken TARDIS before he hobbled, still unshod, out of his glorious blue box.
The Doctor stepped out into a forest of some sort. It certainly wasn't a forest on Earth. It didn't have that "Earth" feel. The Doctor considered himself an expert in terms of Earth, and if he didn't get the feeling that this forest was on Earth, then it wasn't. He was always correct his "Earth instinct", as he called it, except for that one time on Lasmothe III...
The Doctor shook his head, picked a direction, and started walking. Hopefully, a town was not far off. If this planet DID have towns, for that matter.
