Haha, wow. We've never had people try to go through drive thru on foot. The closest would be bikes or electric scooters, which we do serve. I didn't know people were dumb enough to think walking in with cars would get you served in a car-specific service area. o_O
Although we did have one guy who spoke fairly poor English who we had to pull aside while we waited for his decaf. Well, he misunderstood this (our drive thru lane is beside a driving/truck area that leads through a bunch of parking lots and stuff) so he pulled his car just beside drive thru, idled it, got out, and stood in front of the window while cars tried to pull forward and he literally refused to leave till we got his coffee and didn't understand why he was being asked to move.
Yeah, it's a problem at ours, but usually only at night. Because we share a huge parking lot with four other places (and we're attached to a Wendy's), we have the same policy. Also, because we are a 24 hour store, anyone who is on foot would not be sen by a camera if they were to pull out a weapon at us -- anyone in the vehicle would be (because that's what the camera is set to). We don't even open the window when there are people on foot -- we just tell them through the headset that we are not allowed to serve any customer that is not in a motor vehicle.
One time we had some people ask another person who was in a vehicle if they could pick them up and order for them, as we had refused them service already (drunk and trying to walk through the DT). We denied them all service because we saw it happening and told the guy that picked the kids up we would serve him once the kids were out of his truck. Haha.
Used to happen a lot at my old store. People are so stupid. I think that (because I'm sane) that had I never worked at Timmies, I still never would have tried to walk thru the drive thru and get angry no one will serve me.
A little boy went through our drive-thru on his bike and my co-worker flipped out at him. The kid told me about this with his dad a few days later when they came into eat. I felt really bad because my co-worker is a crazy dude who once slashed our soup/sandwich monitor with a bread knife.
