Misadventures in Dieting....

Sep 23, 2010 12:01

SO I decided to play a weird little game with myself (not that kind sicko!) Starting October 1st I stopped eating any meat and stopped drinking any pop. I was curious as to how much weight I'd lose, and what kinda reactions I'd have. I figured this would make me more aware of what I was and should be eating ( Read more... )

Congrats on the weight loss, i'm glad it's working out for you. I find it quite surprising that you didn't miss those foods. Many foods like greasy burgers, fried or salty foods can be addicting. When most people stop cold turkey, they start having the cravings for those foods, and ultimately fail their diets ( ... )

You know my family is fairly stubborn lol. I wanted to do this for myself. I think that's what made it so easy. I think that may actually have been half the battle, the actual desire to do something, rather than doing it cause someone told you or wants you. I think if this started with Nikki pushing me into it I'd have failed easily on the first week.

I do plan to see a doctor though when my medical benefits finally kick in. Seeing as I have a family history of cancer I really can't NOT go every now and then.

Good for you in taking steps in changing your diet and improving your health. 14 lbs is not bad? 14 lbs is amazing. Congratulations!

While I agree I think you should consult a doctor and maybe a nutritionist, I think you're doing very well in cutting certain foods out and taking steady steps.

Don't get discouraged thinking you may have plateaued already. 14 lb is a lot of weight to lose and your body is probably just adjusting to catch up. I'd suggest trying a sort of healthy cleanse, like having a healthy vegetable soup diet for a week.

Do you put cream and sugar in your coffee? I remember Nikki telling me once that you don't like water at all. Don't know if that's the case still but maybe in another month or so you can try drinking water/tea more often. I used to dislike the taste of water, but after drinking it for a while I soon grew to prefer it.

KIANA! (It's been far to long ^_~)

I think the first week all I ate was Cheese pizza at home and microwavable tomato soup and county vegetable soup at work, so that's doable, I just need to find some more variety of soups so I don't get sick of eating the same thing.

I just don't like the general taste of coffee. I can put sugar and cream (and to Nikki's suggestion hot chocolate mix) but the bitter taste still comes through. I just drink it every now and then because I'll get really bad caffeine headaches and it's the only thing that will soothe the pain.

I did start drinking water, however, I buy the large bottles and take them to work. I switch it up with fruit juice (actual juice not a cocktail). When it gets cold I plan on drinking tea seeing as we have nearly a cabinet full of it. Though, I think I may get some ice tea too.

Check the labels on some of the soup cans, many have added MSG or salt, or say things like 100cal per serving but the whole can is actually 2 servings, lol.

The best thing to do is make a huge pot of vegetable soup yourself (you can use a jug of V8 for base if you like the taste of it), add all the vegetables you like in it and eat a bowl as often as you can for a week. You can have a bowl alongside fish, a sandwich or whatever, just try to have it often. The cabbage soup diet recipe is a really good one for a week's cleanse, or you can try leek soup, or have both ( ... )
