veiws and opinions are just that, its good to have a discussion without flaming, as one of the most religious people i talk to, i'm glad to see you can take anything i say with a grain of salt.

however...

i'm not trying to do the "right things", but rather to live in a way that is a response to God's amazing love for me.

and

i want to love God, people, and myself as much as i can because of how much God loves me.

Mean absolutly nothing to me, the only thing i can gather from that, is that you want to live your life in a way which god would want you to. Is that semi correct or am i completely wrong and way out in left field? I'm not sure if you mean to spread gods word, or something along those lines.

I agree a lot of "The Book" is metaphorical... and not literal... I mean, He's God...he created the heavens and the earth...why should he not be able to speak in metaphors?

I also believe that the bible was intended to be a foundation for the faith of a believer to grow on. Not an exclusive, closed-minded way to control organized religion...as the church has seemingly used it...

And I think most Christians don't understand the concept of grace...they strive to be a good person and condemn anyone who falls short of their definition of "Christ-like". Too many people forget that we're all only human...
