This is a toughie. I love me some plot devices, normally. The Macguffin? I love the Macguffin. Or Chekhov's gun.
But now, I'm about to say something kinda crazy. Because honestly, my least favorite plot device is also, really, a philosophical concept.
Destiny.
The protagonist who is foreseen, etcetera, etcetera. People who are born to do something. Now, some movies play with that and do something with it. But the ones that are basically 'he has been foretold!' and then said dorkface wanders off to go save the world make me sigh a bit. Call me crazy, but I like free will. I hate the idea that someone's life is prewritten, no matter what good things come of it.
And really, there are good movies that do this. There are also terrible ones. But I just... I really like free will.
