Sincere is, supposedly, a conglomeration of the Latin words "Sine" and "Cera"; "Lacking" and "Wax". This, my teacher alleged, was originally from ancient potters' markets, where cheap pots that had been broken were mended with wax and would thus fall to pieces if used with anything hot.
