Way to go on roping in six new people in one year, I never managed that.
The problem with Pirandello's weight wasn't in the fabric costume, I did pretty well balancing thickness and weight of fabric versus durability and light block. Frankly, the issue was with the head and hands that Andy made. He had a measurement of the Wizard's neck, not knowing it was overly wide, and the total height, not realizing that this included the pointy hat. I should have made those points very clear but it didn't cross my mind. So he made a head based on that as a guide. This resulted in a head that is much larger than any of the Mn puppets. He made the hands proportional, which means that they are also pretty big, though a little closer to the Mn puppets. Lastly, he was worried about durability so he made them really thick which ended up being really heavy! All this was ok for a first attempt, but the net result was a puppet that's just not fun to wear.

Yeah, I suppose I should have been more clear. I totally meant the head and the hands. I remember you telling me that he kept making them more and more durable. The costume weight was just fine. It was the overall finish that made it crazy to use.
The other thing about the pirate costume is that is has two parts, a big puffy white shirt, and a black leather-like vest. The sun's rays are gonna hit that one like a bitch. But you know us, we're pretty damn tough.
Well, the real job does not get in the way of fest, wanting to use my weekend for other theatre stuff gets in the way of fest. So I should say, stupid theatre gigs!
I'm old.
I would love to see pictures of your season. Maybe if I come out, I'll swing by and keep you all on your toes.
I heard a rumour...gsevenAugust 14 2008, 06:30:30 UTC
that you may need some more Puppet Peeps this year. Is this so? I have some scheduling conflicts but if we can work them out you'd be saving me from a season spent running a game...

Not necessarily. I officially ran in 8 new recruits bringing us to a 11 puppeteer total, which is more than we've had in the past some years. But we're always looking to have people come play with us. If you wanna come by and jump in a puppet or just come talk about what we can set up, you know where to find us.
Check my blog - I have boxes. Let me know soon if you or theseamster need them (although I'm pretty sure that theseamster is heavily invested in plastic totes).
