My dad thinks Rorschach was in the right, which is kind of disturbing. I also think he believes Truman wasn't wrong to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which is quite a bit of cognitive dissonance.

All superheros are fascists. Prove me wrong.

What Truman should have did was Bomb a Military Installation, or a chuck of empty land in Japan to prove how powerful the bomb is, and then go: Surrender or we fuck up one of your cities.

And Superheroes may not all be fascists, but they only keep the status quo, they never actually incite any change.

Superman should be leading America into a glorious golden age, instead of blindingly following our laws.

Your idea of bombing the country side might've worked, but it's still kind of shaky due to the blast radius' inevitable proximity to innocent Japanese citizens. I personally don't think the bomb should've been dropped at all due to Japan's collapsing war machine; they probably would've surrendered within a year or two, most likely without as great a loss of life. If the bomb had to be dropped at all, it should've been dropped on a military installation in the South Pacific ( ... )

awe, very good points indeed.

As for the blast radius of the bomb and radiation, we really didn't fully understand the bomb when we first made it, and we weren't really aware of the radiation threat of said bomb. We have the benefit of hindsight now, but at the time, America wasn't really sure how strong the Japanese were, and they didn't know the radiation factor, or at least didn't understand it well.

It was made in war, and before we fully understood it, it was gonna be dropped. And yes, an island in the south pacific would have been good. It should just be a place where people will see it and report back to command the dangers of it
