So after 13 years my lovely old Saturn is starting to show it’s age and I am looking at trading it in and getting me a new car. Since I really do/did like my Saturn SL I am going to take a look at the new Saturn Ion. The misses is a big fan of cute cars so we are also looking at the Mini and the PT Cruiser and since we are a couple of NPR ( Read more... )

I'm quite fond of my Mini. The Subaru WRX is also a good choice, particularly if you need the space for hauling stuff (in which case, go for the wagon). I used to have it's predecessor, the GL-10, and loved it.

mmmmm.....I love the Dogde Magnum and the 300....the Magnum now has a covertable 6 cylinder to 4 so you save on gas. I LOVE the PT convertible crusiers I have seen of late. BUT for gas saving...I would go w/ the Civic Hybrid. It is bigger on the interior and can haul more stuff. STAY AWAY FROM THE VW!!!!!!!

From what I understand, PT Cruiser is basically a Dodge Neon with a prettier shell. I've rented Neons before, and never been impressed. The mileage is ok, nothing spectacular, but there is no power, no "omph" when doing things like accelerating to pass, etc.

I like the idea behind the hybrids, but haven't looked into them enough to give a valid opinion. Truthfully, I've been eying the Subaru Forrester. Seems to have a pretty good safety rating and get decent mileage, plus it gives a little more cargo space. Check out http://www.edmunds.com for fair reviews, or the other 10 million "helpful" sites. BTW, forget Consumer's digest online, all they have is a placeholder atm. Besides, I have always found them to be a tad biased.

Good luck on your search!

Dear god I want a Mini! Get one so I can drool! Seriously though, great cars all around but no storage room. Which is the only reason it won't be my next car. I would stay away from the PT Cruisers as they are just a Neon engine dressed up really nice. Very pretty, but no power and they seem to be having problems mechanically. I own a Honda Accord and adore it. Damion has a VW Jetta and gets pissed every time he even opens my hood and sees that my belts look brand new. I've never had a problem with my Honda, I adore it. I'll get another one as soon as I'm able. I hear nothing but good things abobut the Hybrid. Although my next vehicle will most likely be a truck. ;) Oh and Subarus are my brother's area of expertise; but he loves his Imprezia. Actually, everyone I know that owns a Subaru, adores it.
