London Calling!

Well we are back from London. We had a darn fine time. We met some fabulous folks, wandered around quite a bit, spent far too much money, and generally soaked up the London scene as much as we possibly could. I was afraid that things would have changed for the worse since I was last there…gosh like 12 years ago. Fortunately things seemed pretty ( Read more... )

wow that's pretty mind boggling. So unbelivably wrong.

But then they go and do something like this it seems so schizophrenic from a US perspective.

and a lot of the museums are free now! The V&A just asked for a recommended donation.

The whole job thing is probably the stickiest wicket since I know everyone whould come visit.

Only one very selfish reason which isn't very good at all.... I'd fucking miss you guys and would have an even harder time coming to visit!!!! Especially since we're talking about moving your direction! Ha, figures!

1. Why move to England when you could move to Scotland?
2. All of your friends will immediately start pestering you about getting them jobs. And by "all your friends", I mean me.
3. It would be annoying to maintain all of that region1/region2/pal/ntsc technology to play both old and new dvds.
4. TV license!
5. The incredibly tasty baked goods and chocolate would result in weight gain and you would have to buy a whole new wardrobe.
6. The plumbing. Really. Goodbye, water pressure! Goodbye, reliable water temperature while showering!
7. Very difficult to get a good dryer. Front-loading washer-dryer combo does not, in fact, dry clothes.
8. Drinks at clubs v. expensive and not v. strong.
9. When talking with people your age, they will not share your cultural background. When they reminisce about Bagpuss, Button Moon and The Flumps, you'll feel left out.
10. You won't know how to spell or which words to use.

I totally know how you feel. When I went for the first time in 1998, I was determined to go back, b/c I loved it. This past May, I spent 10 days there and loved it even more. I seriously considered chucking everything and moving there; the idea still pops into my head once a week. However, I couldn't resolve the job situation (unless I married an Englishman), so, since it takes A LOT of money to live there comfortably, I'll just have to settle for dreaming of moving there, but travelling there whenever possible. :(
