step one to homeless... check

I was laid off, and I am now out of work. I applied to various jobs before getting laid off and one of them called back and I did a phone interview. If I wasn’t unemployed I wouldn’t even think about taking this job. It is work at home and part time. The amount I get paid is dependent on how many people I refer to “websiteX” opt in to the ( Read more... )

You have several options. I know getting laid off is discouraging, but you could literally do anything you want or go anywhere you'd want to go right now-- So why are you settling on homelessness ( ... )

Geez, straight to the homelessness. Did you even *consider* being a higwayman first? You'll need a hat, of course, but you would look quite dashing...
Ok, that probably won't work (good hats are so hard to find), but why NOT college? Yes, you'll have some debt afterwards. So what? You'll likely also have a job, and college debt + consistent payments looks BETTER on a credit record than no debt at all. You might be able to do a work-study job (depending on what your school offers). Anyway it would be Doing Something, which is always better than sitting around waiting for Something to Happen.

I'm curious, what do you want to do long-term? Anything in particular?

The idea of going back to school scares the hell out of me, for no other reason than the mountain of debt I'd be adding to my already mountainous student loan debt. Still planning to eventually, but knowing I pay more for my education every month than I pay for where I live always bums me out.
I've been out of work 9 months now, not even getting unemployment anymore. My fortunes might be changing soon, but it's a job I have to move 500 miles for. Whatever you do, just make sure you don't go a whole year without any professional activity, even if it's just volunteering. Even at nine months, it's a bitch to get someone to look twice at my resume.
Good luck to you. It's tough, but don't give up.
