John Edwards

So, John Edwards is dropping out?

Is that cos he hasn't won anything yet? John Edwards is the Buffalo Bills of politics. Looks good on paper, but when the big game comes around never finishes out on top. Finishing 2nd or 3rd is nice but unless you hold the trophy once in a while you'll never be considered great.

he won South Carolina in 2004, which was apparently enough to convince the Powers that Be that he would be Dixified enough to take the edge off Kerry down South.

Yeah, THAT worked.

The interesting thing now is this: does he throw out an endorsement now, or does he hold his cards until February 6? He could be a kingmaker...or one of the other two could clean up, leaving him with nothing but some delegates to be a cherry on top and no leverage for getting whatever he wants in terms of platform or appointments.

Who's got the sack, eh?

It makes far more sense for him to do nothing for now, wait to see how things are doing and then wait for someone to actively court him. What if he throws in with someone now and they don't get the nomination - then he looks like a loser twice. Better to wait a bit and hope he can parlay his support into a vp nod or some other relevant position.
