Humility vs. humiliation

My history final today was grueling, mainly because I was far less prepared than I needed to be given the sophomore-level spit back every fucking fact you ever learned aspect of the exam. As a native New Yorker who took the subway up & down the Upper East Side every day for five years growing up, it's about freaking time! Yay MTA!

And as a history prof., I do think my students in my Sixties class were vastly happier with a take-home final essay which was one question (choice of two) that demanded they show me what they've come to understand this semester, rather than what they can regurgitate. But that's a bigger challenge for lower-level courses.

Stop worrying about how well you're doing in school. I have it on good authority that George W. Bush was a sub-par student and look at him: he's president!

Sounds like you decorate your tree in a more edible fashion that we do. I never used to buy 'em, and when I was a kid, we had the same fake one every year due to my allergies. It's been a fun tradition with my new clan lo these past several years, although the lot near our house is outrageously overpriced; who could afford--much less want to pay for--a $150 tree?

We always settle into the $50 tree with the disposable stand, and this year Hawk chose a particularly Charlie Brown-like specimen, which we've plastered with lights, tinsel, and various bulbs.

Now if we only had enough money left over to stock it with gifts....
