the elitist nature of academia. I feel awful for her, of course, because I know how painfully gut-wrenching and soul-shaking a situation that can be.
Yup - I am going through something similar-but-different with just trying to decide "what next". I am so sick of the elitism and the "you need to do it this way (my way) or it's WRRRONG" attitude. I also depise the "if you use that word than the _____ theorists will rip you to shreds" attitude.
How 'bout the fact that some theorists really will rip you to shreds over your use of one particular word? Dude, don't they have a life?? :)
So I just finished reading your treatise on the academic pod people and I felt like jumping up and clapping... why is it that only some of us seem to see and become bothered by the pettiness and nastiness that appears to be such a large part of academia? I know I finally couldn't stomach it anymore, but my secret hope is that lots and lots of Paleo-Nerd type people will soon break their way into the ivory tower and turn the entire thing upside down. When I see what you have already accomplished, it makes me extremely hopeful, I must say...
Once upon a time I thought I was where I was meant to be and then... well, it's been three years, and I still have no idea where I'm meant to be. *groan*
It's not foggy here, just raining slow and steady. My squirrel is soaking wet.
I still can't figure out if it really is fog or just an extremely low-lying rain cloud. 'Cause when you walk around outside, it sure as heck feels like it's raining, but there aren't any drops on the ground... weird...
I'm sure you didn't mean it this way, but... I think the trouble comes in, at least for me, with the "meant to be" part. I don't really believe in predestiny or anything like that, why on earth would I believe that there is a particular space that is mine to occupy?
Why did it feel a little naughty to read about your "squirrel"? Hope it dries out soon! ;)
